My sentiments have been put so eloquently by previous posters. I donโ€™t think I have ever been so disappointed in the club as I was today. Goody should have seen out the season. As fans who love the club we will embrace change but Iโ€™m forever grateful that I saw some of the most exciting finals & a GF that will go down in history. Thanks Goody โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Will go down as a club legend

Thank you for all you have done for the club Goody

Ive said it in other threads however thank you Goody - a Demons premiership hero for life

Forever an MFC legend, and so close to being a two-time premiership coach. I truly hope he enjoys some time off and then finds another role where he thrives. No doubt another club will come knocking at his door for some kind of role.

Thanks for everything Goody.

An outstanding record as a footballer, coach and leader. Played the key role in leading us out of the wasteland. Once again demonstrated his class at the presser. In the top four of all time!

Thank you for the flag and the amazing year that was 2021.

And the amazing 2018 finals efforts / results.

Forever a legend of the club and forever grateful for all that he and his team achieved during his tenure.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank Simon Goodwin for helping to end our 57 year Premiership drought. Something I never thought I would see in my lifetime. It brought me tears of joy in 2021.

Simon will always be loved for achieving the ultimate success in winning a Flag for the Melbourne Demons.

I hope he enjoys his time away and goes on a long holiday overseas. It is truly deserved!

Simon Goodwin leave an indelible mark on the history of the Melbourne Football Club and if anyone who is a Melbourne member or supporter bumps into him, remember to shake his hand and thank him for our Premiership glory in 2021.

You will always be a Melbourne Demons Premiership Coach, Simon! ๐Ÿ”ด๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ‘น

All the best for the future. I am sure you will find a new coaching role after you've had a bit of a holiday, Simon.

Thank you Simon, you achieved what I never thought I would see and it is a night I will never forget, nor will my oldest son who (although a Pie) saw his father in tears probably for the first time and realised this was dad living a childhood dream.

One day when the dust settles you will be only ever remembered in a positive light by all the Deeโ€™s faithful.

Iโ€™ve been vocal recently that it was time for him to go and there are still myriad of issues about his tenure that warrant discussion

But that shouldnโ€™t take away from what he was able to achieve - a drought breaking Premiership and one of the most dominant finals series in the history of the sport

All the best Simon - I genuinely hope he can find another role in the industry and maybe even see the last day in September again (just not against us!) ๐Ÿ”ด๐Ÿ”ต๐Ÿ†

From the day Simon took over we were on the rise, 2018 was so exciting for finalโ€™s starved Dee supporters and playing in front of 95k+ supporters raised our hopes and expectations but 2021 ratcheted us all up to a whole new level of excitement and Hope.

25 th September 2021 is etched in my mind and my families for the rest of our lives, Simon and his boys bringing home the Holy Grail was surreal and joyful. It has been summarised quite brilliantly in above posts.

Thank you Simon for fulfilling those dreams for all us Demons. ๐Ÿ’•โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Built a Culture in the Club that produced both a Flag and a Team...

What more do we want....or need.

Honestly I feel shattered. I canโ€™t imagine how the players feel. His exit, for better or worse, puts the full stop on the most successful era in my time as a supporter and the best dee coach I have known. Always calm, always looking to gather the players in and not to punish. Thank you Simon for bringing our dee supporting dreams to a glorious fruition in 21. A legend of our club.

Goody is a great of the club

Disgusting to see the media and the very same fans calling for his head now saying he shouldn't have been sacked or the way it has been handled isn't ok.

Im not a fan of the decision but have all of my fingers and toes crossed hoping we make the right appointment moving forward

No chance to say goodbye, got it in the back, and thatโ€™s that.

My heart breaks, whilst my head says its the right decision.

I have utmost respect to Goody. Thank you, you will be forever in my heart! โค๏ธ

From the day he was appointed as apprentice under Paul Roos I have been a Goodwin fan, and I remain one now. Calm, focused, loved by the players, and a devoted clubman not just a coach. I waited a b****y long time to see a Premiership and to see him and Max lift that cup was the ultimate feeling of success after decades of failure, near misses or if-onlys.

To see him sitting there with Brad Green was a total gut wrench for me, and although I understand the decision, I would have liked him to see this season out.

Other Demonlanders might feel relief or hope. For me, I feel only sadness which I hope will pass quickly.

Thank-you Simon, and very, very well done.

I just accepted that I'll never see a premiership in my lifetime...then Goodwin came along

Thank you Simon for breaking the drought, we are forever grateful.

You are always a part of the Melbourne Footy Club.

Just two things I want to say:

  • thank you for your outstanding dedication to this Club, and particularly the players. The fact that you are so well loved within the playing group means you are entitled to feel extremely proud of your efforts and the legacy you will leave. We are a much better club for having you onboard.

  • Secondly, time you signed up to Demonland and gave us the inside goss on all things MFC.

Best wishes for whatever you do next.

Think of all the coaches since Norm Smith that couldnโ€™t get the ultimate success. Daniher, Northy, Barassi! Simon Goodwin is only our fourth premiership coach. Let that sink in. Unbelievable achievement that Iโ€™m forever grateful for. I got to go to the 21 flag with my then 10 year old son. Absolute best day of my life. Thanks Goody.

He brought a professionalism to the club I had never seen in my life time

He brought a unity to the club that I had never seen in my life time

He brought stability to the club that I had never seen in my life time

He developed players like I had never seen in my life time

He gave me a feeling of pride in my team that I had never really felt in my life time

He brought me some great seasons that rival 1987 and 2000

He brought me those two finals in 2018, where I had never seen so many MFC supporters in the same place

He gave us the final round win against Geelong in 21

He brought a supporter base together like I had never seen

He brought us a premiership that I never thought I would see in my life time

He is the only MFC premiership coach in my life time

I will forever love the man and what he brought to out footy club.

He made me fall in love with my footy club again (Im watching the 21 GF and Im crying)

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
