I'd prefer we go after his brother Ben and teach him (backman) how to play as a forward.

Is this sarcasm?

There is no way I'd entertain a trade for Petracca, and it is hard to see how any trade for Oliver would improve the list.

I'd be floating Lever as trade bait and see if any clubs are seduced by the prospect of resurrecting a former All Australian defender. Fingers crossed they haven't seen him play in the past three years, but apparently he has some (hitherto well hidden) leadership qualities as well.

If we can get Lever's contract off the books, we would be well placed to make a play for McKay, who would clearly be an upgrade on any of our current forwards.

If the Dees had Harry McKay in 2022 and 2023 I would wager good money that MFC would have Premiership #14 on the mantlepiece now (or #17 if you are a Colin Carterite).

Don't think you can compare Ollie Lord and Harry McKay.

Lord has been unable to lock down a spot at Port and the most goals he has kicked in a season is 15 in 2023.

Harry McKay is a prior coleman medal winner and has kicked over 40 goals in a season 3 times and averages just under 2 goals per game for his career. FYI his career goal kicking (not including OOF) is 261.176 (59.7% accuracy).

Would be happy to get Lord on a low cost contract, but McKay is a much more sure thing and Lord could be another list clogger.

Ollie Lord = Sam Weideman 2.0

‘Personal issues’ makes me laugh. Who hasn’t got them.

I can think of 10 Demons @Ethan Tremblay.

Bailey Fritsch

Only ever stressed when tackling is mentioned. Emotionally balanced through hair symmetry and low heart rate per goal.

Judd McVee

Quiet assassin vibes. Probably journals, reads stoic philosophy, and tackles you when you least expect it.

Taj

Resolves all life’s tension by being named Woewodin. Already peaked in footy nostalgia.

Andy Moniz-Wakefield

Has five syllables in his name and not a single doubt in his mind about the ‘u’.

Tommy Mac

Meditates on defensive rotations and moonlights as a stoic Roman senator.

Langers

Processes everything through the lens of “team structures.” Once repressed an emotion mid-forward-half turnover.

Jake Lever

Solves stress with intercept marks, pointing, and very detailed family PowerPoint presentations.

Kossi

Too elusive for problems to catch him. Last seen ghosting out of trouble while time itself applauded.

Trac

His problems aren’t personal, they’re brand-aligned. Bench-presses doubt and his only issue is having too many calves and not enough shorts.

Tom Campbell

Played for 14 clubs, dominates February like it’s Grand Final day, then vanishes into folklore.

The first step in addressing our lack of goals is fixing our ball movement. we need to have imprinted structures and decision making to put speed on the ball.

For mine Mckay's best footy has been working up the ground to the wing to provide a bailout marking option. Not as effective inside 50 and a flaky goalkicker.

If he does want out we would be crazy not to go for him... even though he has had kicking issues he would make us so much more dangerous down forward and allow JVR and Jeffo to take the 2nd/3rd key talls.

We could have McKay, JVR and Jeffo as key talls next year.

Move Petty back with Turner and then the third spot up for grabs between May, Lever and Adams.

I would trade either or both of JVR / Jefferson. However Carlton would not do that deal.

Had any of Petty, Brayshaw or Melksham been available in September and / or we’d been slightly more accurate we wouldn’t have needed anyone else to lift both those flags.

Your obsession with and constant potting of the umpires can't be good for your health, brother.

Thanks. Just good to know that I have helped to make people aware of how other people are so wrapped up in winning they forget about how it's a game and it should be as fair as possible.

You can't exclude OOF when looking at his accuracy as he sprays so many it would drastically alter his accuracy stats.

Whilst Bergman would make us a better team, I like the intent of this thread around a KPF, given we seem to win inside 50 count every bloody week but can't win a game.

Having somebody who can clunk a mark and take his 30 seconds (and hopefully kick a goal, god knows we need a few of those) allows our forward line to setup when we inevitably kick a point.

I think we have enough medium sized players across the park to win a game. Just need a big banana up front. Have done for the last 4 years.

And even the odd goal scored on or after the siren once in a while.

One can dream.

I get that but they don't list that in the stats I can find.

If you can find something that does please let me know.

Just as a comparison, Jeremy Cameron who I think is an excellent kick has a career goalkicking of 696.389 at 64.15% not including OOF which he would have many. So he is less than 5% better than McKay.

u r right QBD - Filth have stars everywhere - they might be like Nellie Melba "too old" but they keep on performing.

The Mihoceks, the Elliotts, the Crisps these types kill us.

Yet we got to within a whisker of suffocatin' 'em - I can't work us out but QBD you have hi-end analytical AI access:

Y = MX + C

Please, how come we Dees are Bottom 4 but lose to The Filth by a point?

Ben is without a doubt the worst player in the AFL. It’s dumbfounding how much money he is on!

Harry McKay would cost too much for someone who we couldn't have confidence in.

Already contracted to 2030. Complex injury history. Lots of form variability overall, including his kicking at goal which drifts from exemplary to comedic and back twice a season.

27 years old and he's only ever cracked 50 goals in one season, compared to Ben Brown for example, who had kicked 60 goals in three consecutive season before injury put him on the outer at North and he came to us to pinch-hit for a premiership.

I'd place more optimism in getting Van Rooyen back to form and lifting Jefferson's confidence.

Oh dear, I just checked and McKay is listed as 'knee, 4 to 6'. The curse must be averted, we must not take him, for his own good.

Finally sanity prevails.

Wasn't that because Norf refuse to release him unless the Bombers paid a certain amount, thus ensuring they got band 1 compensation?

peptides wanted to secure someone after missing out on multiple free agents - they frontloaded his contract enormously for the first 2 years of his 5 year deal

And yet he still managed to play a fine game against us at Gather Round.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
