Not to mention the GWS defenders hands in his face supposedly spoiling the ball.๐ŸŽฑย

Is that what happened to Brad Green in that unconscionable vicious assault ignored by the AFL in the 2000 GF?

Not sureโ€ฆ. I was 13 years old for that GF so my memory is a bit hazy!

yes I was 51 years old and my memory is hazy as well, hate those baaaarstards since thenย

I think it was the disappointment of losing plus something I ate or at least ingested

I donโ€™t think 12 disposals and two goals against Howes is killing him, Green is a fantastic player and Howes is still learning. IMO heโ€™s becoming the new whipping boy much as AJ is becoming a fan favourite. It will be interesting to see how the FD react. Only forced changes this week Iโ€™d suggest unless someone really played well for Casey. May and Turner come in if fit.ย
ย

He was subbed off requiring us to move Rivers back to counter Greene reducing our midfield run in the last. We subbed him off ahead of 5 debutants. ย That should tell you all you need to know. The irony that Greene went into the middle after that is not lost on me. I would not call Howes the new whipping boy but AJ (a fan favourite already) is there because of his obvious effort and intensity, something that Howes could apply to his own lackadaisical game style.ย

Dean Wallis punched Green in the throat.

Snake Simmons was nearly paralyzed by a filthy front on hip and shoulder to his neck, at full pace from Michael Long, as Snake was bending down to pick up the ball. I was sitting about 15 meters from it and I thought he was dead. I met Long years later and told him it was a disgusting act and he agreed.

A few other Dees were โ€œaccidentally โ€œ hurt as well.

Sheedy got another flag his way.

I know this will be howled down but TMac is too good to not have in the 22. If May comes back Iโ€™d be moving Petty forward. AJ was poor in the ruck against Brown and JvR is much better. Jeffo has no intensity and Iโ€™d prefer Turner and Petty to AJ and Jeffo.ย
If Spargs is ready heโ€™s a class above Hendo.ย
Wont happen, but thatโ€™s my take.ย

I'd leave Petty back, but wouldn't be averse to McDonald trying to replicate his Plugger days up forward.

Yep, that's where I'm at.

@Slartibartfast, you'll be happy to know that I see a spot for your mate as a KPF alongside JVR. ๐Ÿ˜„

I just think if TMac takes the best defender, can still bring the ball to ground, his being run off is really no different to defenders running off JVR or Turner, and it frees up JVR to get the second best defender.

I'd happily stick with just TMac and JVR with the latter taking second ruck duties, but if they insist on playing three talls forward of the ball, TMac, JVR and Turner could work.

Wonder if Tom Campbell comes into consideration with AJ now suspended.

Troy Chaplin has said previously they are oven to playing both at once.

Spargo shouldn't play after 1 full VFL game he needs a month.

AJ has been suspended.

Turner will replace AJ. van Rooyen second ruck.

Maysieโ€™s strength is not kicking for goal

All I'll say is that if we don't win on Sunday, the honorable loss to GWS won't mean a thing, and we'd be at danger of going 0-3 given the Suns always start the season well (as we saw on Sunday evening).

Also, TC would be very handy considering he was excellent against Xerri in the practice match, and that Fritsch better hope that Archer remains suspended because Archer gave him an almighty bath last time.

Whatโ€™s the thought process with playing Fritsch further up the ground? I wound of thought if we are trying to move the ball quicker at times he can be very dangerous one on one and is a pretty reliable set shot.

I think we play Turner for AJ

Langford on, Sharp the sub

Howes is the tricky one. I don't see an obvious replacement. I'd give Woewodin a shot but that to comes with risk. I'm guessing Howes gets another chance. Fritsch is no chance to be dropped until Pickett, Spargo and Melksham are back. He needs to find some form and this week could be just the week. I just want the points and no injuries the next 2 weeks and then get May, Pickett, Spargo and maybe Melksham into the side for Freo. That to me is our must win game to make up for the points we just lost. I want to see a ruthless edge the next 2 weeks.

ย

I hate Windsor at HB. I would try putting Lindsay there - his movement reminded me of Judd McVee and wouldn't that be nice!! To have two of them! But HB is a real problem for us at the moment because we only have Salem and Bowser as available established HBFs. Sestan may be worth a try...

ย

Or put Rivers back there.

What I want: Out - AJ, Langford given a full game, he and Trac split forward and midfield time. Bring in Spargo as sub.

What it will probably be: Out AJ, In Turner.

Would be very dissappointed if Langford gets another game as sub, either give him a proper game or let him build his match fitness at VFL.

The more I think about it the more I want Campbell to play. He takes AJ's spot and Turner takes Howes spot. Howes must be dropped his form the past 2 weeks has been pathetic. Play Rivers back again he will be more important back than in the middle.

According to last weeks injury report Hore was 'Test' so he may be available this round to replace Howes if we want to keep the mid-sized defender AND keep Rivers in the middle. Excitingly, by the time Round 4 vs Cats rolls around we are likely to have all of Picket, May, McVee, Hore, Spargo, and Melksham available for selection. That adds a lot of options and selection pressure.

Iโ€™d prefer Hore over Howes. He moves pretty well, so he could take a small or tall as well. Disappointing we didnโ€™t have him available to play on Greene this week!

Hore offers good versatility and allows match-day flexibility to get the right match ups for May and Lever to be more free to intercept. Against North, we could have Petty on Larkey, TMac on Darling, and Hore on Zurhaar, leaving Lever to play the intercept role.ย

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
