My view is that coaching these days is all about man management and less about flicking around magnets and being a master tactician. Jonesy get my blind faith 100%

302 games with the Dees. Head Coach and Technical Director of Football at Haileybury. Head Coach at Peninsula Grammar. He would’ve also had a lot to do with mentoring and coaching our midfield of Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca et tout from 2014 to 2021.

I totally agree, and I’ve got too much respect for him to “bag” anything about his skills/kicking. Nor do I have any “jobs for the boys” issues. He’s a club champion, and not a nepotism case  

I was just saying that I have concerns - and concerns with a lower case “c” - about one particular aspect of what he may (or may not) bring as a coach (because it’s, y’know, Demonland) But I also think his presence will be a stabilising force for our currently-a-bit-rattled champs in the midfield, and that could bring a whole lot of other positives  

I’m most happy to sit back and see how he pans out, and of course, I wish him all the best. I do bluddy love Jonesy.

Great to have Chunk back in the fold — makes his critical views all the more relevant. Now he can become a part of the solution.

Knowing some of his philosophy or at least what he says publicly, I think he has the potential to get our mid group back to being the force it should be. 
 

My hope is that he helps make things more offensive & gets our stoppage strategy right to capitalise on what we can do well — being explosive, moving the ball fwd & ensuring Max has 7-8 good tap plays rather than just the 2-3 he’s exhausted & that other clubs are shaking way to easily.

I think that Nate Jones starts off with one of a potential coaches most important assets, respect.  That's not a bad start,

I think all fans love Nathan Jones but his commentary was hardly insightful, listening to Daisey Pierce she seemed to have a much better grasp on clubs tactics / game plans.

Regardless I would have thought a line coach could assist players in all aspects of their game.

So you love him but don’t think he has any tactical nous? and you think so little of the MFC that would we would hire someone with little potential to be a solid coach?

And this based on channel 7 special comments?

I respect him so i’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I saw Aguirre the Wrath of God by Herzog in the 70's. A most bizarre, tedious & incomprehensible film.

Probably comes in with relationships and respect already established with many of the players. May be just as much about building cohesiveness and positivity as some radical new going to fix all the world’s problems midfield system.

@Demonstone, @Cranky Franky and @hardtack, can we tempt you over to NoT$NoB$, where Herzog and Fassbinder will feel very comfortable?

(I appreciate that might be a bridge too far for you, at least, Mr Stone!😄)

That was my initial impression, too, BA, but I thought he eventually showed improvement, possibly as confidence improved?

Someone with the strength (and respect) to keep both Oliver and Tracc’s eyes squarely on the job at hand, and nothing else. If he can achieve that then this appointment will be hailed as a major success.

Totally agree. I was a bit unsure at first, but to have someone like Jones back in the club to provide some leadership and help with player relationships feels really important. Perhaps to take some of the burden off Max as well, who has commented that he feels worn down by everything that's been going on.

I suggested about two years ago that she should be on our men's coaching staff - and I still have that view
