This is a toss up for me.  Parfitt is 26yo, 130 games in 7 years at the Cattery. Was part of their best 22 this year until round 11, then was dropped and only returned for one match before again being dropped. Not sure where he sits. He’s above avg/elite at tackles and clearances.  Lower rated on other ratings like disposals volume and marks.  Is he still keen to play? Always looked nearly ready to be very good but didn’t quite.

Comments on him on Cats socials and their website

A premiership player a load of talent but just has lost some confidence and fitness at times in his career.

Parfitt struggled for regular senior opportunities, playing more than 20 games in a season just twice – in 2019 and 2021 – finishing his Geelong career with 130 appearances.

he will get a deal somewhere, jermaine jones and nakia cocatoo got got a chance somewhere else and I think parfitt is better

stuck behind Atkins and cats preferred Clark or Bruhn as additional 4th midfielder

I think he's afl standard as your 3rd or 4th best mid but we have too many similar

Parfitt is better then atkins. Better tackler and better offensively.

He is far from the player he was 3 years ago. Back then he was on the verge of becoming a consistent high 20s possession midfielder with a high tackling count and line breaking abilities.

Parfitt has some ability. Just totally lost all confidence and should be delisted at the end of the year.

In my view, I’d back Matty Whelan to have a chat to see where Parfitt is at.  Would a one year deal be sufficient? He’s free so adds depth without costing anything.  But there’s options as late draft pick youngsters who could also appeal and take up a list spot.  Maybe he’s a train on option for the summer if available.

Tough one for me, could be worth a punt. Lots of talent, but fitness is a real issue. He’s also not quick and struggled when he came up against quicker midfields.

Mids: Viney, Oliver, Tracc, Rivers, Sparrow

Wings: Langdon, Windsor, Billings

HHFs: Kolt, Sharp, Laurie

Smalls: Pickett, Chandler, Spargo

Developmental: Brown, Sestan, Woey?, AMW?

There’s certainly room for one more midfielder, ideally someone with some forward attributes.

But I wouldn’t be in a rush. If 5 and 9 go on mids or half forwards we can probably hope at least one of them is ready to contribute

Chandler probably a HHF, no?

Either way, that breakdown highlights the need for a second dangerous small forward alongside Kozzie.

Are we certain we need another out and out big bodied mid at pick 5? If fit and in form (big if, maybe) that's still a good group of 4.

Perfect midfield/half forward depth for mine. Won't be a world beater, but offers more at AFL level than some others on our list IMO. No trade cost, likely low salary, free hit.

I can see Port getting him

Surely no more room or picks available to Power. They are challenging the Baggers for no’s of half forwards and on ball types.

I want know how we are going to get any of Andrew , Yze and/or Mentha on our list.

Perhaps both Tommo and Hore  miss out.

Think we only have Pick 49 left plus rookies?

Would love to give JT a free throw at the stumps in a Round 4,5 or 6 for a genuine diamond in the rough!!

No we need a young gun like Nearly any one of the  first 7/8 mids. Speed goals and swagger a bonus!!!

Yeah Chandler and Spargo are probably a bit inbetween.

In an ideal world McAdam provides that danger as well as medium forward ability but that requires him to be both fit and good, and requires Fritsch doing something useful up the ground.

Age of Viney, doubts on Tracc and Clarry, Sparrow not coming on. In an idea world we’d add speedy, skilful, fit guys at 5 and 9 who can play forward and midfield but that seems unlikely, not many of them around!

The Francophile in me says that Parfitt could be parfait

Ça alors!

It's a no for me. Has Jack Billings written all over. Went from being a permanent fixture in Cats side to being on the outer for past 2 seasons. Cats preferred Jye Clark over him, even though Clark seemed to struggle.

Parfitt's a premiership player at the Cats. Like Hunter, what's his motivation to toil away at Casey as a depth player? And I don't care how cheap they are.

If we have a spare list spot, just get a kid into the system, who has his whole career ahead of him.

Must be a Francophile kind of day today.

My director is in France currently but he's had some kind of food poisoning and isn't too well. I've getting morning emails with nothing but French pleasantries. Usually a no nonsense no faff kind of guy so he's definitely lost the plot.

Think he is perfect for us.

Our midfield being fit and healthy is:

Trac, Clary, Viney, Rivers and Sparrow

With sprinkles or Kossie, Salem and Kolt.

This is exactly what we need in our reserves that can play at the level when called upon.  DFA so wouldn't be asking for much either

Pass. He's a bit "beige" for mine.

The DFA parrot doesn't really exist.

No. No. No.

Billings, McAdam, Fullarton and before them Hunter and Schache.  Surely we've learnt our lesson.

I'd rather us try to attract mature age quality players to Casey's list, not ours. He is not AFL quality, and a lot of Casey's list is no VFL standard.

Still need mid field depth  refer this season with Trac  out and Clarry injured and fitness issue as year evolved. Need Rivers Kossie Kolt and the duke at centre not wing to raise the pace and aggression level of our mids

Agree totally.  You might get a gem rather than another lump of coal !

Put enough pressure on that lump of coal and you might end up with a diamond.  A diamond is a gem.  :D

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.

After a one-year reprieve, the Demons return down the freeway to Kardinia Park — the site of both one of our greatest triumphs and one of our darkest days — as they face the Cats under Friday night lights. This one could get ugly. Who comes in, and who comes out?
