Reposting from the trade targets thread a week ago

Tim Membrey has kicked as many goals a game as Bailey Fritsch. I'm suprised nobody wants him (From Fox Footy graphic). One of the best pair of hands in the league, great contested mark and forward craft. JVR and MJ could do well to learn from him.

With Tomlinson gone, one injury to our OLD KPD stocks and Petty gets thrown back. Then we need a decent marking forward again. Or 9 goal/year Petty might just end up in the VFL for a year before TMAC retires, if Membrey is playing better as a key forward.

Also he's apparently a pretty good clubman with good professional standards. Still has a few years left to give. We chased a 34 year old Tom Hawkins, why not a 30 year old TM for 2 or 3 years. (+1 to lure him over)

It's fraught with danger of course if we overpay, but sometimes these risks pay off.

--

I love that we're linked to him. The 'we don't need a forward we need mids' opinions are not taking into consideration how risky it will for soft tissues to have TMAC and May as 32/33yo. We need a forward in case Petty or Turner Have to go back into defence, and the forward line is left threadbare and impotent again. And we're back to 2022/23 levels of wasting i50 dominance

A future first and a second rounder it is #inLambwetrust

Hope we don't burn another future 3rd rounder and miss out on a superstar

If we do pick him up it might mean no more Melksham, I can't see the need for 2 veteran talls who's main strength is they can help set up a structure.

I've always thought Membrey played a couple of decades too late. Not sure that's going to change as he gets older. We are in desperate need of someone who can lead up at the footy but in an ideal world it's a genuine tall with height and agility.

But clearly it's very slim pickings on the tall(ish) forwards market.

Probably worth doing if the price is right - not sure why Ross wants to get rid of him though, St Kilda aren't exactly overloaded with forwards...

Who is he the upgrade on in our forward line. I'm not saying he is a bad player, I like him and he is in accurate enough kick for goal. But where does he fit, as he wouldn't be swapping to another team just to play in the VFL.

If we are interested in Membrey, it suggests we lack confidence in Jefferson, McAdam, or the others to take that next step next year.

Whilst our forward line was not great, and not pretending it is, however when Melk came back later in the year I thought, Turner, JVR, Fritter, and Petty started to work things out between them. We lack a crumbing small option when Kozzy isn't up there. I don't know if we lack for medium forwards.

The benefit of Membrey is he's actually a forward. Petty and Turner are both backmen being retooled. They have shown glimpses and may get there but are not natural forwards.

If Jefferson comes on, a combination of JVR, Jefferson and Membrey with Fritsch, Pickett and Chandler could be something.

Petty and Disco can settle in the backline easy enough.

I'd rather Disco stay as a Forward option and Petty drop back into the backline and form the much vaunted Bermuda triangle with May and Lever.

Disco kicks truely for goal and can always swing back if need be.

This.

Disco has some confidence, swag and grunt about him which I like up forward.

Petty is a confidence player like McKay… so once he misses a shot he already sets himself up for a poor night. Better in the backline.

Any move that allows Petty to shift down back should be considered

Don't mind that either, but if Jeffo comes on someone will need to make way

He’d kick a good bag at training each week - loves kicking them against the Dees backline lol!

But all seriously is a big upgrade on the Shack Attack.

According to Sam Edmund, Melbourne "have a level of interest" in Membrey. Said we can't rule it out as of yet but we've definitely been in conversations with Membrey.

Love the wording, it's an unchallengeable statement...

"A level of interest"... without having to state or verify what that level is

Modern day reporting, creating a story out of a nothing statement, on a basis we will never know

Why do I feel like we're in the op-shop looking through the rack of 3rd hand jackets and trousers?

Just get him because he always seems to have a day out against us!!!!

You’re correct. Modern journo’s MO.

It is true though, we’ve sounded him out.  I like players that hit the scoreboard and Membrey does that clearly. Whether Father Time is about to catch up with him is the question I have. Handy player to have on the list though.

Membrey is only 188cm so not really comparable to Wright

*Apologies if I'm being overly pedantic

I wouldn't mind us looking at him. We need more senior big bodies. Once he doesn't mind spending some time at Casey. I'd say he would be competing with Melksham/Fritsch/maybe Turner for a spot

Could get pretty hot for spots in the twos I reckon. Fritta might have to spend most of his time in the ones I recon.

I have a "level of interest" in finding out where all my missing socks go to. It’s either the washing machine is a black hole or they’ve started a secret society somewhere. But that is where my interest ends.

I always thought of him as a Saints version of Kent Kingsley, seems to always play well against us but generally a bit of a spud. His stats suggest him to be more consistent than I give him credit for. Would not be against picking him up.  Will help keep fritta honest who got games this year he didn't deserve

We’ve just suffered through 2 years of Schache on the list. Assuming he costs the same as Tomlinson, we’d be silly not to.

Referred to as the sock ghost in this household!

Schache/BBB/JSmith off the list. Tomo/Membrey seems a good balanced swap for us.

I’m sold.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
