He's a type of pick I'm not sure we've seen for a while at the dees. I feel all our mid-picks have been absolute top echelons (Viney, Oliver, Bradshaw, petracca) so it's hard to know what to expect from him, and from the coaches in how they use him.

From all signs, seems like a real footballer, so should fit a few roles. IQ, can kick, up for it and ready to go. Seems a good pick.

We have picked some others, such as Laurie and Sparrow.

Highlights package on the MFC website actually reminds me of Pendles. This kid is silk.

Compliments Langford beautifully too.

Welcome, Xavier!

Looks very silky, and has great breakaway speed. And similar to someone like Pendles, never really seems off balance. Really happy to have a guy like this in our team.

He'll be just what we need to take over from ANB.   He is a hunter.    He tackles hard and runs to every contest and will make Viney's role much easier.  With him, AMW and Viney we will have extreme small/medium player pressure second to no other club.   The forwards will love him with his disposal which is a huge plus over ANB.

Looks like he has some skills and footy IQ. I think he will be a good pickup. The Dees did well in this year's draft 👍

Lindsay looks to play a bit like Andrew Gaff, who was small and was good at everything (but not great at anything). He looks strongly left sided with his kicking, so I can see him being used mostly as a left winger.

Wild post. Lindsay’s not particularly a pressure player. AMW hasn’t shown he’s afl standard yet. No mention of Chandler, Kolt and hopefully a healthy Spargo who are our pressure players as well as Windsor who’s a more brilliant chase down tackler.

XL is here to provide run and ball use. I suspect it will be half back but it might be wing or forward. This is demons run and spread footy, not the 21 murder ball.

I don't keep as updated on the young fellas as some on here, when do you think he'll be ready to go?

Last weeks Coates League player of the week was Gippsland Power captain Xavier Lindsay.  Had 32 disposals in the midfield, with high efficiency, using his left foot deadly disposal.  He had the good mix of skill, smarts and athletic ability.  Lock him in as a future star.

Celebration time Norm!

No it is not. A big kick of the ball for a right sided player is described as ‘booming’ ie he has a booming right leg.

To sit opposite 'raking', it could be 'sweeping'? ... Or, therefore, 'brooming'? 😲

I assume the Greens will try and trade for him to eventually replace Adam Bandt.

I'm so happy we didn't split our number 9 pick as there are risks associated with it. I thought maybe St Kilda may have taken Xavier Lindsay, but relieved we remained firm and went for the best available and got an absolute ripper.

I'm very excited with both of our selections and both players have instance impact like Caleb Windsor did this year. however I'm more excited about Xavier Lindsay in the long term. Already looking forward to season 2025.

That would certainly apply if the player had just brushed off an opponent.

PCL injury late August, assuming 3 month recovery should be just about right to get in to decent training.

Should start at half back and keep Howes, AMW honest for the 3rd back flanker spot behind Salem and Bowey.

He said that he’s back running as part of rehab. But I think he’ll be carefully managed in his program so have to consider a potentially restricted time in any preseason games.

Said in an interview he'd be ready to go for preseason starting in December. He'll likely be managed since it's his first one though.

I'd expect him to play early next year and wager he'll be ahead of those listed very quickly. Salem struggles with injury and form, and I'm not convinced Bowey has a place in the team long term unless he can reinvent himself in another role.

It’s not a great sign that we drafted his replacement but if Salo gets through preseason I really hope he’s got more in him. If not I’d actually try to reinvent his role.

I have so few doubts on Bowser. I reckon he was set for a big year before injury last year and early training reports are positive. With the shackles released on the game plan and a fit midfield he should show his smarts and skills.

Gaff never had penetration in his kick

Is Lindsay a bit quicker?

True but they weren’t Top 10 players. 😁

I believe so, Gaff had great endurance to repeatedly get involved in transition chains but I don’t believe he had the capability by acceleration or penetration/depth of kicking to break lines or be really damaging

Bonus points for managing to make rhe bombers look silly.

No, but I bet Andy Brayshaw feels that his fist packed plenty of penetration.

I am 100% behind Xavier and hope he has a great career but I’m 100% confident Tauru is going to be a better footballer at AFL level - time will tell I was really hoping Tauru would slip to our pick so this one is a bit bitter sweet

No doubt the ceiling is high for Tauru. Impossible to predict how good he could be.

I'm personally not fussed but I can see why others would be, we do need to think about the future.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
