The good news is we can get our second round pick back from the Crows, or lower the cost of the Houston deal

huge tank and huge heart. Gave his all for the cause. Smashing bloke by all accounts. I wish him the very best. I think his attributes really suited our system. Will be interesting to see how in goes in another team.

Like many on our list he is not skilled enough by foot. If we could swap him for Houston i think it would be a net positive.

Houston will be a two time All Australian at years end, it won’t be a straight swap unfortunately

This is a real shame and he will be sorely missed, especially in the short term. Hopefully we can get something decent in return, I think a pick in the 20s would be fair and the crows will have this.

Maybe that explains the Laurie extension earlier in the year

That was a mistake off the back of Laurie putting in a great preseason (he looked excellent over summer) then resuming being bog ordinary come games.

I wonder if it explains the Kolt draft pick. Kolt has Nibbler attributes.

Also absolute LOL at everyone being sad when 90% of posters on this site have done nothing but heap [censored] on Nibbler for most of his career.
Classic Demonland.

90%?

I reckon I've given maybe 2 critique posts on Nibbler's game in the last 5 years and while there's plenty here that have heaped it on him, I'm certain that he's beloved by many on here.

This is some A-grade rubbish from you.

Firstly, the article explicitly says he requested a trade weeks ago. Not this week.

Secondly, there is no report or suggestion thatViney or Trac have requested trades.

Thirdly, you either don’t have kids or have had a charmed run. But the suggestion that you can plan for kids and map it all out and it all goes to that plan is misguided and honestly, to those of us who do have kids, offensive. Who are you to judge him or his partner or his child on what is working for them?

Take your disappointment and vent it somewhere else.

Is it? i always try my best to get top grades with you. Now I feel content.

might have been a twinkle in the eye, eh layzie?

Not many can do it as well especially in their prime and good teams need them.

GWS took years to find Bedford and steal him from us for example.

Can they return him now plz

With all the [censored] going on will Houston now want to come to us?

We can thank the media's strategy of creating a dramatic "(insert club here) is in chaos" narrative to drive clicks and advertising revenue for that.

Have I mentioned it was leaked to the media?

Seriously, the family didn’t want it made public yet. Unfortunately someone has betrayed their confidence and now it’s public knowledge. The family is furious about that.

Just wanna reiterate… this is something the family has been discussing for a while. It has ZERO to do any of the current stories making the rounds.

Wasnt he rated elite by Champion Data no so long ago? I think with his leadership potential, maturity, there is a case for a late 1st roudner to be made.

If we deal with Port, he'd be a great temp replacement for Powell Pepper (ACL) and add to their HF line. If we can deal Port for Houston, we may get away with a F1 or 2nd rounder.

For goodness sake - I love Nibbler for all the reasons others have noted. But let's be realistic, there are dozens of players in the comp that can do what he does. It's not like we are loosing Vines or Trac for instance.

If you think this, I don’t think you properly appreciate his role or modern footy.

And that’s without acknowledging his status as a leader of the club.

All good, @Redleg?

Not sure what you want me to say, so as usual I will just be honest.

A good clubman, a very nice guy, extremely fit, who tried his heart out and improved over the years, giving everything, but who still can turn it over at inopportune times.

Disappointing, but I accept his reason and wish him and his family well.

Interestingly he hasn’t named a club, unlike an earlier traded player, who insisted on one club limiting our trade potential.

Yes he was rated as Elite by Champion Data's Daniel Hoyne.

This deal could get done with a 2nd rounder parting ways.

I know we often don’t agree on things, and have very opposing viewpoints on the coach, but you are 100% on the money.

One thing that fatherhood has taught me is to never, ever judge what other parents may be going through and it makes me so angry when people call out other parents with newborns for ‘weak’ etc.

People underestimate just how difficult it is being interstate with no support, especially for a first time parent. My wife and I did this, and we’re getting through it, but it’s nowhere near as easy people make out (for the majority) and I challenge anyone to attempt it and see for themselves.

This is so spot on.

When it comes to family and especially parenting, it's a [censored] hard gig.

We had to move away from Melbourne two months before Covid hit back up to the bush where all our folks are to start a family as there was no way we would have survived down there without any family support.

I agree with this. It’s hard to imagine he’s asking to return if everything is ok. I mean Adelaide is kinda close.
But if bubbly isn’t well, definitely need to be close to family

We didn’t have an unwell baby but our first was very challenging. Being 2hrs flight (+ travel on each end ) is a large barrier to calling and seeing if someone can come around from 15 mins away.

He will likely nominate a club when we get closer to the trade window.

Love Nibbler and wish him the best, but I think Bowey's foot skills and footy IQ would make a good link-up high-half-fwd prospect. A different type, but worth trying.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
