Anyone got any news on Luker Kentfield? Making any progress?

4 possessions and 1 mark a game probably suggests there’s some scope for improvement.

I wonder if we were tempted to recruit a ready made ruck in the mid season draft if one was available?

Would struggle in the SANFL

I was excited with this selection.

Based on the games I've seen at VFL level he'd struggle to get a kick in the EDFL.

I'd be saying thanks, but time to pack your bags at the end of the year.

Tbf to him Casey is a bog ordinary side at the moment so not a huge surprise he hasn’t kicked many goals.

Guess we will know at the end of the year if they will give him another year. Seems a bit harsh to bring him in half way through the year and then cut him loose without even doing a pre season.

I think the club will be basing their judgement more on attitude and aptitude rather than output.

Got to give the lad at least an AFL pre season to prove himself properly.

The guy was dragged across the country at very short notice, never having had an AFL level preseason.  No surprise that he "hasn't performed" in a bottom level VFL side.

How about reserving judgement until he has had an opportunity to get physically fit enough to compete at least at VFL standard, and if he does then give him a go.

Exactly! He was abruptly uprooted in the middle of the year and plonked in a city he’s never even visited, let alone lived in. He’s had to make a monumental adjustment. He’s 18 years old. Eighteen! People need to give him a break ffs.

Fortunately, since arriving he’s had Kolt by his side. They still live together with the Porz family. He’s getting to know all the other players, but slowly. He’s actually quite reserved and hopefully his confidence will come. He’s happy here and is even getting used to the weather (!)

Yeah I’m gonna say it… it actually hurts to read these comments about him packing his bags etc., him doing SFA, a flipping burgers gif and someone ❤️-ing these posts. I really hope he doesn’t read DL (but he probably does, just as a few of the young guys do), coz if I find these posts hurtful, he’s definitely going to as well.

So, have at me for defending him. I couldn’t care less. A bunch of insensitive sadsacks sitting behind their screens belittling an 18yo boy who’s determined to make us proud aren’t worth a pinch of [censored].

edit: Luker, if you do read this thread, please try to ignore the nasty comments and know that they’re in the (tiny) minority.

Needs a full pre season and willing to give him time but he's gonna need a lot of it judging by where he is at the moment. As a project I'm still for it but I disliked the strategy then and I dislike it now. Seemed like something a bottom 4 club would do.

Has booted 5.5 from 8 or so VFL games.

He's still only 18 and has been tasked to come in and play as a tall forward for a struggling VFL team without a full AFL preseason.

He obviously hasn't set the world on fire so far but I'd be really surprised if we delist him at years end.

Mid year draft pick.  Unless you want an impact this current season then you do not pick an 18 year old kid.
has that come out right ?  Aaase about I think.

They picked him for his potential maybe next year or the one after .  And not leaving him on the table for this years draft. In doing so getting an extra player they thought would fall low.    I hope.

Too early to know.  Not brought in for immediate impact, so suspect has time to do a preseason and show that he can deliver what he showed at WAFL.  A big lad that might yet prove many here wrong….

Watched him train and was amazed by the size of him, particularly given his age.

He will not get any smaller over the coming years, but will get faster and more confident.

Give the poor lad time and give him a chance.

Very good point. I can see the rationale behind shopping early before everyone else gets a chance in November.

However, I still think the mid season draft should be used to satisfy mid season deficiencies, and we clearly had a pressing need for a second ruck. Someone like a ready made Brynn Teakle type player (North Mebourne) would have been a smart selection for us in order to allow JVR to focus 100% on his forward craft and development.

I think I’d be somewhat disappointed if you ever posted something positive…always good for a laugh though

Yeah he would have been great. If only we had a pick before North

The club has said from the outset Luker is a long term prospect.  Give the kid a chance.  He is, after all, a kid, a massive adjustment for him, and as others have pointed out, not conditioned through a preseason training regime, arrived mid year, ffs some of you here are unwarrantedly harsh.

I don’t think he has disappointed. We liked him last season and he’d shown some improvement in the WAFL.

We will have a large deficiency in key position players next season.
T-Mac, Schache, Tomlinson most likely gone at seasons end and a very underwhelming start for Fullarton, it makes sense to bring someone we like in, let him learn the game plans and people and get a full preseason in.

People who are annoyed by his presence or think he has nothing to offer really should be looking at players like Viney Oliver Bowey McAdam Fritsch and Sparrow as players who have not hit the mark this season. (Viney gets a near pass as he was playing well before his injuries)

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #37 Kade Chandler

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
