The Age has named us & Essendon as potentially being interested in Owies

Torn in this one — can finish which we DESPERATELY need but his def pressure isn’t there so if free is be a yes which he should be considering he hasn’t been offered a contract due to their interest in other players like Haynes etc but with them missing on a couple they might offer him a deal now

Understanding that all the so caled trades etc in yet to hear any player from another club ask to be traded to us! We just don’t seem to be very active or a club that players want to come to, journos saying players driving to Casey & the circus of what happened with Trac

Why if he comes cheap? Who are our round 1 small forwards. Koz ?(suspended). Nibbler ?(gone). Spargo ? (has not played for a year)? So Chandler and possibly Kolt or Kynan or …… A good quality opportunist small forward (6 games of 3 goals and 33 in total for 2024) who is very team oriented who would come at low cost. I can see the potential appeal.

The Age reported that Peatling is likely to stay.  He was the one player that I thought would be a very good addition for the Dees.

Breakout Giants James Peatling is also weighing up his future, according to two industry sources, despite saying ahead of the club’s semi-final that he wanted to remain at GWS.

The Giants have increased their offer since mid-year, with Peatling transforming into a key contributor in the midfield by season’s end, including kicking two goals in the first quarter of Saturday’s semi-final while playing on Lions star Dayne Zorko.

The interest in Peatling from Victorian clubs such as St Kilda and Collingwood has not disappeared, and he is considering his future, even if he may remain at the Giants beyond 2024.

Yes to Peatling (if he was available)

Yes probably to Parfitt, Derksen

Maybe to Membrey , Matt Kennedy, Owies

Maybe but with a lot of due diligence: Malcolm Rosas (jnr)

No to … Macrae, Daniel, Ross, Taberner, Cerra, Ladhams, Jack Martin, Marchbank, Hind, Sam Day , Haynes, Stringer, Darling

Kennedy def fits the bill keys hope we go after him!

Wade Derkson — as reported by afl.com.au & above is someone we have interest in and his hands are allegedly super-strong so watch that space could be a nice little get for not much & giants signed him up so they def saw something on him

I just love the name, it sounds made up.

Parfitt ? Never been a fan of his work - Bailey Laurie offers more upside imo

But it would ruin the nickname you're trying to push onto Tholstrup though

Is there something legit about Derkson or would he be just another Pat McKenna who we also got from GWS a number of years ago.

I think Matt Owies could be useful for us, but I guess we have Spargo who potentially could get himself back into the side.

Does sound like a NPC for sure

I must be on an island with Lewis Young. I thought he was a good solid defender and at his age I would be snapping him up if cheap.

I must be looking at him all wrong as I'm shocked he is being traded in the first place.

I think he has sone great afl qualities as well, but also has his deficiencies but as a role player he'd be an asset if he came as a cheapie that is for sure.

No mate, this kid can play and has WAY more upside -- he lead GWS VFL Gkicking LY and played very well behind ball this year, they just have a plethora of talls ahead of him and he wants to come to VIC for family reasons (3 kids) and obv opportunity.

Dees in 'box seat' for Derkson according to today's episode of Gettable

If Rivers and McVee are intended to be used more up forward next season, I'm surprised we're not linked to players needed to play their role in defence - or have I missed something?

Houston said Hi !!!

If we went with Owies, we could play Spargo on the non Langdon wing and play Windsor between half back and midfield.

If we're not going hard on this bloke then I'll fully rage

If I could pick any bloke in the league to grab for free, it would be Jesse Hogan but Finn would probably be close second.

He’s got it all

Derksen would fit right in at Demonland.  People are already stuffing his name up.

Not prepared to wade into this argument.

players that the various afl medja punditry have linked us to, and away from, in the last six months:

  • ryan angwin (gw$)
  • wade derksen (gw$)
  • dan houston (pear)
  • tim membrey (aints)
  • jake waterman (meth coke)

plus we have our own various demonland threads on other players (such as matt kennedy from the baggers) but i'm yet to see anyone in the medja link us to him

also got linked to Leek Allir in the last couple of days I read somewhere..

Not sure Spargo will ever be a viable wing with his zero overhead game, but Chandler took some rotations in the last 2 weeks and looked fine.

We need to do what every other club does and realise the wing is largely a trash position and stop spending so much on it and rotate guys through.

Chander, Fritsch, Tholstrup should all play some minutes there, heck even Disco if he has a big summer and that way Windsor and Langdon can move around.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
