Agreed. He loves to take pot shots. I think it's naive to think everything is running beautifully and aspects of our culture don't need work but I think you could say the same for every club.

A run of bad form and it's stacks on Melbourne again.

The way to get rid of this crud is to start  winning. Let's try doing that.

I have to agree with one thing: it would be nice to hear from Kate - even if it is just platitudes.

This is the same Mick Malthouse that recommended Neeld to Lyon when we were looking for a coach. The same Mick Mathouse that destroyed Carltons list and culture when he coached there. I just dont think he's credible enough to take seriously these days.

If she will not say “motherhood” (pardon) statements. Why can’t we get an AI not to do it for us.   Won’t make a bit of difference to how the supporters feel or what happens.   But good to share the pain.

Yeah the same Mick Malthouse that is also a 3x Premiership Coach, 1x AFLCA of the year, 2x All Australian coach and a premiership player himself.

So easy to spot the cons that ALL coaches carry with them huh..

Coached the most games in the history of the AFL (718). I’d say that gives him some credibility.

Read Ch7 Interview with brody grundy about his MFC experienece and our culture.

Dropped online today .  Couldn't be more different, in a posiitve way, than the media white noise from those on the outside - as opposed by someone from the inside with no agenda to push, like clicks.

Swans ( incl them having JJ) are now my second team for this season.

Except he's not on the inside, so in this case is just another media speculator.  He should know better.  His track record of coaching and playing is excellent, but know your limitations Mick

He doesn’t work for the club therefore cannot have an opinion based on his observations with the experience of 50 years at the top level?

Conversely the only opinion that can therefore be taken seriously is those from within the club? That are inherently subjective and driven by vested interest?

Strange take. I’d say Malthouse is more learned than the average observer. His opinions may not be infallible but I can’t understand how they’re just dismissed like he’s some nuffy.

I couldn’t spot anything that hasn’t been said already. I guess he’s got some cachet in the W.A. market? Probably even more after his destruction of the baggers.

As far as culture goes, it can be helped along greatly by some players who hold things together. I would have Gus and Grundy in that group. It still disappoints me that we could not make it work with both rucks on the field. Having Lever missing for a few weeks has not helped matters either.

Can never understand why people get their knickers in a knot when outside people the club comment on Melbourne after all that's what this forum does.

Yes, and no one gets upset on here when a poster comments on the state of the club…

While I don't disagree with most of his comments there is a hidden agenda at play here.

For his own selfish reasons, he's written this whole article to turn the blow torch up on Gary Pert, the man who along with Eddie McGuire transitioned him (sacked) from the top coaching job at Collingwood.

Im hardly a Pert fan but this is brain dead stupid:

“When Demons’ CEO, Gary Pert declared on radio in October last year that: “Our culture at the club … is the best I’ve seen in 40 years”, that one statement opened the club up to immense scrutiny and a whole host of critics waiting for the club’s downfall.
It, in effect, loaded up the club with pressure it couldn’t handle.”

Our downfall has mostly been poor list management, perhaps some fitness but also a new game plan and natural playing group turnover and fatigue. It’s hard to be up for more than 3 years. It’s hard to reinvent a side to play a new way.

Has anyone written about Richmond’s culture for their collapse in 2022 and this year?

Our focus should be addressing any cultural issues for sure, but apart from that we need to keep stressing the culture is overwhelmingly good. Gawn, Viney, Tracc, ANB, Lever, Salem, Langdon, Chandler and so many more make it the best playing group culture we’ve had in decades. And I’d include the coaches in that too. Hard workers with close bonds to the players.

The challenge is to fix what needs to be fixed - which might involve a few changes for cultural reasons - but overwhelmingly to ignore whatever point Mick is actually trying to make and stay the course.

The writing is on the wall for all to see. We have lost our win at all costs attitude. Lots of players are playing at 90% level does not win AFL games in 2024. Like 99% on here I have no idea what is going on inside the club all I know is we look like we playing without passion. Why?

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
