lol, 2009 St Kilda. Every time I remember they didn't win a flag in that period I just shake my head in disbelief.

The only team that’s more St Kilda than St Kilda is Fremantle

Still not ready for the Jake Waterman 2025 free agency thread?

He's had a great couple of weeks. Certainly has talent. Amazing what some good delivery i50 can do to help a forward kick goals

So the GWS player kicks it to Greene. If there was ever anything as football rights, that was Greenes and Durdin had no right.

So the fact that Durdin goes for it and puts himself at risk, Greene is supposed to pull out? Not protect himself?

It’s like driving into a round about intersection and some scumbag speeds up from the left intersecting lane and enters the round about just as you do and you end up hitting that vehicle.  Technically and by the rule of law you are at fault, but everyone knows it’s BS.

Of course just lIke Brayshaw failing in his duty to avoid #4💩

Seeing more of it now

I recall that we were the beneficiaries of one last week or the week before (Petty).

Wish we could have traded up to land him.

And missed out on Duke and Kolt?  I guess time will tell.

We will see last week as an anomaly in Brisbane's form. They can't bring that intensity every week. They got up after media scrutiny. They are back to being fractured as a team and will struggle, occasionally putting everything together to pump a side. Like Port over the last few years.

Port and Bears - never put your house on them.

Harley Reid. I know we offered two decent first-rounders, and not complaining about Windsor and Tholstrup ... but Reid is a generational talent. Two first round plus a second plus a future first wouldn't have been excessive. It's not just what he does, it's the way he does it and the impact that has on players around him.

@bing181 that's basically what we put on the table out looks like. I'm not sure we could have offered much more. I reckon it needed to be 2 and 3 to get it done.

"Meanwhile the Demons, who have aggressively traded up in the order, put forward picks 6, 11, 42 and their future first-rounder in exchange for Pick 1."

North were a bit silly in beating GC in round 24 last year.

They had Harley Reid secured after the Eagles gifted them 18th spot in round 23 with a Hail Mary win over the Dogs….

However, they (North) somehow put 20 goals on GC in front of a whopping 4,000 people down in Hobart in a game nobody will care to remember.

Net result - 17th finish. No Harley Reid.

If you think that win looks bad now, wait until 2030 when McKercher is back playing in Tassie, and Reid is winning Brownlow’s.

Are people on this forum still adamant Carlton aren’t the real deal and can’t win the flag?

Just beat the league leaders with a ton of injuries and are flying at 5-1.

Are the #1 seed thus far with players to return.

It's just I don't want to believe it.

2 weeks ago Eagles pushing for a priority pick. Reid steps up, now id say this is off the table. Wondering what the future looks like if he does a knee. Unreal how one 19 year old can put the team in his back.

Think we thrown all we had. WC knew what we did, and weren’t dealing. If we’d have offloaded Petty, maybe we could’ve snared Reid. But even then, it’s possible WC would’ve still said no. We aren’t the club that should be kicking ourselves. North lost out on Reid and he has the Carey factor.

The kids is blown up like he is super human. Has only played a half dozen. Have seen too many fizzle out or plateau .
Granted he looks the goods but given him at least 2 seasons. WC still have some bottoming out to do. Kelly, Yeo, Darling, Cripps, Sheed, McGovern …. They are some big roles to fill.

Didn’t we go 10-0 in 2022.

The MFC remained the only unbeaten team by the end of round seven, is what the tweet is trying to convey (I think, but didn't check the data). Confused things by adding 'so far' to the Geelong stat.

This is the exact reason the draft order should be decided by combining the ladders of 2 or 3 seasons. Means you can't play finals, drop off hard for a year and get pick 2 then play finals again but helps the teams who are down longer. But that's for another thread. What a player Reid is.

I'm a little concerned about the thumping of Port by the filth.

Port dominated the game early on but were seriously thumped later

Okay the pies were fresh from a bye but it has it exposed port as not being a top four team. Their four wins were from beating lower teams .

And if port aren't that good a side it means our four wins have been from beating lower sides.

I feel at this point , we are not the same team as the last three years and may struggle to make top four again.

At this point we are 2-1 against current top 8 teams and 2-1 against the current bottom 8 teams.

Given the loss against a current bottom 8 team was against one of last year's grand finalists and we were coming off a short break, and we've played interstate 3/6 matches, I think it's a reasonable start for the year.

A long way to go, but difficult to infer too much given the length of the season. We certainly didn't want to be peaking in the first 6 rounds.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
