Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

POSTGAME: Rd 02 vs Hawthorn

Recommended Posts

Goodwin 1, Critics 0.

The numerous posters who moaned about team selection were confounded.

Hore proved the ideal substitute in the circumstances and Petty's versatility shored up the defence after the exits of May and Lever.

And Goody's defensive blanket set-up in the first quarter forced the Hawks to go sideways more often than a crab.

It's true the opposition weren't great, but for once we had a game plan that worked perfectly.

There is a very specific ACL test they do. It’s either negative, positive or inconclusive like it was with Gawn last year. An inconclusive test would be treated as an ACL.

I’m alone at home with only you lot to vent to. I really want to win the flag

One of Traccs best games, effective on every line, doubt he lost a contest

Fritsch excellent, he embarrassed Sicily in the last quarter

Petty a good in. Particularly when switched back in necessity.

Pickett, what a player.  Maybe top 10 in the league by seasons end.

Staying optimistic on May and Lever, I feel like they won't miss long and if we have depth anywhere it's in the backline. If we can go 1-1 in Adelaide and then beat the lions on our home ground post bye and we've made a very good start.

Your knee can feel quite ok until you try and turn, his run through didn’t feel good clearly. He’s done it twice and it was innocuous last time.

He would know if he has done his ACL and would not be giving postgame interviews if he had.

ACLs in most cases are determined on the spot by the Lachman test. They would have test that on him, so an ACL would be a surprise.

What did we think of JVR's game? Much more time in ruck, it's not ideal for a youngster but he competes hard and it does give him a chance to get into the game. Thoughts?

Developing very very nicely

Go redlegs.

Professional win with some terrific individual efforts and highlights.

Goody looks a genius with his selections.

Hore replaces may.

And Petty goes back to cover Lever.

Despite losing our two best key defenders for a half, on a perfect day for footy the oppo can't break 50 points.

Not as tall as most but hardly ever gets moved off his line, very strong.

Said it before, but what elevates us from serious contender to God mode is Trac's kicking.  He just gets so many great opportunities to convert possessions into scores.  If he hits targets inside 50 and around the ground, it's worth 3-5 goals. Absolute weapon.

He was good. His ruck follow up is strong.

I knew he’d do much more rucking. We needed to give Gawn more breaks as we head into 2 games in 5 days.
I love how he competes at ground level, and frankly it gets him involved. It’s definitely not the worst thing for him.
Thought he played well. And how important it is for him to have Ben Brown to take the space behind him when he’s inside 50.

He's definitely starting to turn potential into performance but there's still some way to go.

he was excellent. Dirty Chol tried to kick him in the head like the May push kick, and he competed well. He gave Max and excellent chop out today.

I thought JVR was terrific. I really think he's out best second ruck option. Competes in the air and on the ground. And time in the ruck gives him an outlet to get into the game if it's not working for him Inside F50.

Just now, whatwhat say what said:

one of the best defensive displays i've seen us execute

the way we held up their ball movement and punished them on turnover

second quarter was ugly, compounded by may's injury, but we were dominant otherwise

professional win

That second quarter was Hawthorn giving everything they had to shut the contest down, after realizing their only option was to keep the margin of their loss to a minimum.
But playing all out defense is never sustainable against a side that is smashing you in contested possessions and clearances and when you don’t have the forwardline nor the disposal skills to punish the opposition on turnover.

They’d be very disappointed that they managed only one goal with May and Lever both off the ground.

They are hot garbage and it gives me great pleasure to watch them get destroyed.

Serious question - can you run around with the nickname Wizard when you’ve played two senior games and kicked 1.7? A tad premature 😁

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
