640MD 3,568 Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 Only saw the first half on the box. glad we got better the second quarter was terrible. Petty at least moved to the ball better than I thought he would. I liked JvR in the ruck this week he seemed more at home. Thought Kossy and Salem were both very good. Saw max getting attacked, one or more should have come to his side. Glad fritta got his kicking goals boots on again. He is brilliant if the ball comes over the back. So quick ! will be interesting in Adelaide next couple, I need to trust the selection group. They are better at it than I am. Go Dees 1 Quote

Our guppy-brained media now have some new targets drifting into their viewfinders. Collingwood (but softly softly until it's obvious they can release both barrels), Crows, Lions, Bulldogs. It's a tremendously exciting time for them. And they always have us in reserve if we have some "off-field issues", ie, start losing. Yep that pretty much sums the media up, they have to have a target in the off-season to sell papers and get clicks. People like Corns have to make bold, stupid, and totally unhelpful comments like Oliver might never play again (seriously he should put his hand up and apologise for that). They circled and hoped for us to have a slow start, we lost to the swans and their mouths were frothing. But now two good wins have them off our back and they've gotta acquire a new target. Quote

I get it, rough them up and be physical but it just looks so pathetic targeting players to hurt them. 5 1 Quote

Demon4Life 603 Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 We've had two good wins against middle-of-the-table sides now. Enjoyable to watch and the winning feels good! We still have a lot to do to prove we are a serious contender, but we can only do that when the opportunity arises. It was great seeing how aggressively we manned the mark all day when it was outside our F50. I don't know if this was a tactic employed to combat Hawthorn's chipping game or if it was a general mindset but I would love to see more of that. Also great to see our defence hold firm and not fall to pieces as our two generals succumbed to injuries. The last two years we crumbled when either one came off. A defining feature of our '21 season was how well we matched up and defeated all 7 finalists (50/50 against the dogs) during the season. We failed against the Swans in round 0, and will be tested against the Lions in a couple of weeks. The Lions' form is dodgy at the moment and I am sure come September they will be a battle-hardened much improved outfit, but I really hope we can carry our current synergy through to that game in a few weeks' time. It's great to see how well our forwards are working in the past two games. Fingers crossed we don't run into horrible luck with injuries like we did last year. It takes more than just talent and tactics to win a flag. Luck comes into it too. The joy with which Trac and Oliver are playing with at the moment is great to see too. When those two are in sync we are capable of anything. Go Dees! 1 Quote

old dee 24,083 Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Another morning after a good win. How good is this? Yesterday was a game I have waited decades for. Dominated from the first bounce and I never felt like we would lose. Yes it was only Hawthorn but they have belted us for decades. So to give them a 9 goal defeat was a joy. We lost our two mainstays in the backline and had to play the second half without them. I don't care what comes next I am just revelling in a big win for the next few days. 8 3 1 Quote

Not in terms of purely dominant footy more in terms of the team enjoying themselves and playing selfless footy. Defending as a team, extra efforts, looking to give off instead of blazing and celebrating good moments together. They’re clearly enjoying playing this style of footy. It’s evident it’s starting from the bounce and the joy is first directed through Trac and Clarry etc. We are playing for each other also. No coincidence that BBB and Tmac are at each end of the ground nurturing this love as well. Plenty of help on each line which makes a team effort possible. Long may it continue. 3 Quote

Much more time in ruck, it's not ideal for a youngster but he competes hard and it does give him a chance to get into the game. Thoughts? I agree with Goody’s assessment. He loves the ruck & it gets him in and around the game. I get that he’s young but he’s solidly built and an aggressive type of player. He doesn’t spend a lot of time in the ruck so I’m happy with this solution to our ruck issues at the moment. Quote

But as for adjudicating whether a goal was touched, this is in relation to whether the ball had passed the back of the goal line, which is painted between the posts, not the back of the padding. (On replay the ball appeared to be touched while above the goal line, so correct decision appeared to have been made as far as I could see). Quote
Deespicable 2,886 Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 Yep Hawks were almost as dirty as the Lethal days. But we coped well and one of the reasons that I hope everyone is aware of is that we have gone back to picking a tall side - the same combination that took us to the 2021 flag in fact. And surprise, surprise our small forwards look even more lethal - probably because there isn't 10 of them queuing up for a spill that never comes. And we looked like a senior side - unlike the junior-sized rabble we threw out on to the field last finals and in round zero against the Swans. This is not to say that Spargo and Bowey and Laurie aren't good players - it's just that when the balance is all askew, you end up creating problems that you can't overcome. But don't get too excited - the Power will be a huge task next week - they have a gun midfield like ours and plenty of bigs to quell. 3 Quote

The very thing that can lead to concussion. That is a suspension. 7 Quote

Doug Reemer 1,208 Posted March 24, 2024 Posted March 24, 2024 (edited) I just watched the Mitchell post game presser. He was pretty humble about his team getting their pants pulled down. His smugness came out when he said he thought Petracca wasn’t dominant today.. He’s had bigger games sure, but he walked it out of their “gun” midfield which is supposed to be their 1 wood and made them look like boys! I’ll never get sick of pumping the dorks! Watching their supporters have nothing to cheer about was the best part for me yesterday. Edited March 24, 2024 by Doug Reemer 3 2 Quote
