Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The popular opinion was that our talent levels dropped off alarmingly because our zones weren't very productive (zones came into being from 1963)

The way around the zones was to bring in interstate talent but apart from bringing in Tilbrook, we weren't really a player like say, a team like North who seemingly had an endless chequebook

Bombers, Hawks & Blues brought in loads of interstate talent as well (more so in the 80's)

That is true. The Zones were meant to be rotated but the bigger clubs with productive Zones and plenty of cash kicked up and rotation was canned. Our Zone was not productive. Part of it was in SA.

The Hawks were gifted an amazing zone, resulting in like 13 players in their team of the century or something along those lines!

Just having watched the last quarter and bit ( from 44 pts down ) and gaining our Minor Premiership in 2021 I could just see the Duke running on all pistons  and being involved in a comeback like that, He has the skill momentum and attitude to be a major player in his career. His bold football and possessions will be impactful.

Whether we see a lot of it in 2024 I don’t know but I look forward to hostile in our next few years on the wing,

And his partner in crime Kolt will be a 15 possession game changer who will do in do the tough acts and play keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Again every touch worth its weight in gold. Again how much this season don’t know but  looking forward to whatever he does as it will be vital and impactful.

And I know it’s even a longer straw but I very much have the feeling that Kynan Brown will also be a major player in our future. Why? Because the kid bleeds footy and the red and blue and he’s already exceeding our expectations. His will is like Clarry’s indomitable and you need players like this in a champion team.

Dont underestimate what  these 3 draftees will bring whether in ‘24 but if not ‘25 and after.

We need a lift from some newbies and others are also in with that opportunity to put the dare back in our play like in 2021. Do that and the will like vs Cats in 2021 and again vs Lions in 23 can make us great again when th going gets tough.

Just curious is this just based on your visits to pre-season training? Or have you watched their Eastern Rangers/Oakleigh Chargers or Under 18 National Championship games?

Hoping all of the above comes to fruition.

44 pts down? When was this? How can I watch?

Edit: Brain fade it was MFC v Geelong 21. I misread it as Windsor played in a TAC gf where they were 44 points down and won. I was keen to watch that!

One might ask why he's hanging around you then, picket!!!

Why would you hang around with Brownlow Medallists, Coleman Medallists & fellow Premiership players once you had heard that the famous Field Medallist in PF was available for befriending ?

There is certainly a bit of Judd in the way he moves, but Judd was 5cm taller and heavier/stronger. Plus Judd was big for a mid when he played but would be only average size today.

I think Twomey said leading up to the draft he thought he had "Judd like explosiveness"

I thought Windsor was quite tall. Was Judd really 5cm taller? Seems a lot and I don't recall him being overly tall

This kid's hands inside are elite.

We have a very good one here.

Can't wait to see Tholstrup in the big time as well.

Sounds like the Kolt isn't that far off as well. Guess it is just hard to find him a spot with Kozzy, Billings, ANB and Chandler all having good games last week.

Agree - I said the same a while back. The way he handballs (particularly off the left side) you would swear he is a clone of the great man.

Will he reach the same heights? We can all dream. He has a bright future ahead given he appears to have a good head on his shoulders and seemingly a great work ethic.

I saw a lot of Flower.

Nothing of Windsor reminds me of Flower.

I also saw a lot of Robbie including his first and last games and a lot in between.

He definitely has some traits that remind me of Robbie. There's a certain drive and swivel from the hips, running style and the same ballet dancer poise and movement especially evading tacklers, burst of pace leaving contests, decision making and skills. There's plenty of Robbie there. He's taller and already quite a bit heavier not that it would be hard to be heavier than Robbie's 68kg. He l already looks to be a better defensive player than Robbie. Time will tell. If he gets to have a career half as good as Robbie's we have a star on our hands. Early signs are very promising.

Watching him, Flower didn't really come to mind.

Not as elegant or as smooth a mover (robbie is my all time favorite player by so far its not funny, covered the ground beautifully but never looked like he was exerting any energy).

And doesn't really have the same way of feinting and avoiding contact that Robbie had where he looked like he wasn't actually moving.

But as soon as i saw him play a proper game, Alan Johnson DID come to mind

How about Alan Johnson gator?

It’s not so much his look that reminds me of Flower it’s his ability at such a young age to be in the thick of traffic and not panic….to slightly slow time down and then find the right option. Then once he’s done that to not only execute but to then get himself into the clear and take the receive back….that’s a quality that only the very best have. The fact he’s only played 2 AFL games is quite astonishing. He could well become scary good in the years ahead.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
