Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Was a great time to be alive if you like good value entertainment over footy results.

And our recruiting staff were seen as a company of B-grade actors.

I call BS. Once Oliver was selected there were precious few if any calling it a mistake or asking “who is Oliver?”

We don't have a player like Windsor on our list. Size, pace, endurance. Closest may be Blake Howes, but I don't think he particularly has the pace. Maybe Caleb's a bit like Max Holmes who we apparently also liked. That would be helpful.

I think he will play early on.

I don't believe we recruit a top 10 player to spend much time at Casey.

Good players learn to play AFL by playing at the level.

I love that he's already focussed on getting his first game.

Same. I suspect there’s a half forward/3rd winger role that they’ll be keen for him to take. Use his speed in quick rotations.

Pretty much the games Harmes and JJ played last year have to go to someone and Billings and Windsor are the 2 favourites. If Billings isn’t up to it then get the kid in.

Is that you Olisk? 😉

Few called it a mistake but we were still burned by the Toumpas/Wines fiasco and with his OP issues in the leadup I'd hardly say there was certainty around the Oliver pick on here.

Twelve months ago we were saying the same about Judd McVee.

I hope you’re right I think the difference is that key position players generally (words chosen carefully) take longer to develop.

Actually, Olisic was the one who stood out here with his admiration of Oliver a long way short of the draft ... and he was right on the money too

And Mach5 is right ... there was hardly a soul here castigating the choice of Oliver.  That just didn't happen.

In the lead up when he was the bolter, maybe?  But once we drafted him, we were all over the choice.  He did win the Morrish Medal although that award has historically been cursed

However, your call of a 'reach' with regards to 'The Duke of ... ' might be remembered though layz!!  Heehee😁😁

I love this selection. Did we go “needs first” over “best available”? The hell would any of us really know…?

Currently, we are screaming out for a bit of pace and precision on the outside. I personally thought Hunter was bit of a downer and Langdon was nowhere near his best.

Also, to those bemoaning the non-selection of Curtin… Lever. May. I think we prefer to recruit our key defenders once they’re already hardened and seasoned and I am totally fine with that.

Best of luck Caleb.

I posted a replay of the Vic Metro vs WA game a few posts back. Do yourself a favour and go to around 51 mins into it.

From a WA kick in, you will see Windsor tackle an opponent to the ground. A WA player picks up the loose ball only to have Windsor get up and tacke him also. From this spillage a Vic metro player picks it up and delivers to Watson who kicks his 5th.

He's not just a running outside player. Love his work ethic.

Same as the Toumpas choice ... the criticisms came 18 months after his career at the MFC had started.  From the hindsight/I told you so types.  Shouda, couda, wouda

That's why I said it. No-one was championing Clarry harder.

We were tongue in cheeking it a bit before and I never said people were castigating Oliver but it was a surprise pick to a lot of Phantom drafters. We were all pretty pleased with it, I was particularly stoked when the 'strong bodied' mid we got looked bigger on than Parrish on stage.

The criticisms with Toumpas did come later and he was highly touted to go where he did but it still hurt.

As for Windsor, I'm happy to have that pinned if it works out. Pickett was a reach too!

I think this choice says something about our forward issues

that our problem has been slow ball movement resulting in a crowded fwd line and subsequent kicks to congestion

fwds have no chance

Our other deficiencies like Gawn back up tall defence and replacing Tm and BB  are going to have to be solved by those on the list now Fullarton Adams verrall Jefferson etc

im not convinced that our newest recruits are straight in to the team and also Verrall Jefferson and Adams aren’t likely to advance much next year

So my pessimistic outlook is that we are a ways off being more competitive than 2023 particularly when the rest of the comp isn’t standing still

A half glass empty expert?

How to look at with a closed and defensive outlook who mentioned everything as worst possible scenario.

Even if I agreed with some of these comments we have the solutions by the players we have picked in the trades and draft this season.

Given JT and TL’s record it may be this year or next but along with some developing Casey and younger players already in the team the future is very promising when you look at our overall list.

Dino you seem to overlook the possibility that Adams Howes AMW Ruiy McVee Chandler Disco Sparrow Petty Kossie Jefferson Fullarton plus Billing’s and McAdam even Clarry and Trac if the majority improve by 3/5% we would/could win the flag in 2024.

We are right in the flag race and I like our 2 National draft selections which directly are to address our connection, pace and forward issues. They may not early do that but who knows after pre season and plenty of game time we may be surprised.

We have already seen how Dogga Kossie and Riv had an effect in 2 seasons and this 2024 version is goals better than our 2020 outfit to form a base on.

Yeah, I was joining in on giving credit where credit is due (Olisic)

Amongst Demons both here and elsewhere I reckon we collectively thought we'd picked up a gem with Kozzie ... you're right though, many in the media thought otherwise

I reckon 'The Duke of' might surprise many and he'll get early games I reckon

Another thing that stood out is how quickly he wants to dispose of the ball ... vital at AFL level.  And those first 2 or 3 quick steps is an AFL necessity too.  He's got that too

As for the wild Dane, putting his head over the ball against men for a season is good grounding.  He looks right at home in that role and looks a creative type as well

So would I! He's a gun recruiter.

I just saw the new highlights package on melbournefc.com.au in which he looked stronger in the contest than the reel I saw prior on AFL.com.au.

Let’s hope we are the beneficiaries Danny with Caleb being like our great Robbie Flower a little as a couple of sharp judges have suggested.

Just checking, text can be hard with these things 🙂

Kozzie was exactly what we needed and why I'm more than happy to back JT with speculative picks.

The Duke could be like a QB on the Wing with a quick release?

My attitude towards our drafting in general has changed a great deal because of how good Jason Taylor is at identifying talent.  I used to believe that it was more of a crapshoot than it actually is

JT rarely, if ever, misses and that includes bringing in established talent with draft picks (on numerous occasions) For that reason, we need to keep our eye on Jefferson.

JT's record is phenomenal and I reckon he is the best in the business

And who do we have to thank for acquiring his services?  None other than Mark Neeld

The parting gift that keeps on giving!!  Extraordinary stuff, layz!!

Absolutely pumped with Windsor and Tholstrup. We need Windsor’s pace and their combination with some of the young guns coming through will be a great competitive mix for 2024. Really feel the club have got the ‘needs’ ticked and the balance of young vs experienced ticked. Bring it on!

Robbie was left handed, but a right foot kick and of course could do both on the opposite side brilliantly. It made him difficult to stop, because he would lean the way you weren't expecting and evade, or get off a kick or handball.

If you watch replays of Robbie, you will see him lean into the handball and lean back with the kick.

This kid is a little similar, but is quicker than Robbie was, which will help him in his career.

If he is 25% the player Robbie was, we have a beauty.

Caleb's a right footer where as this guy wasn't but in terms of players who have played somewhat recently he reminds me of one of my favourite opposition stars in Stephen Hill. If he can be anywhere in the same ballpark of him he'd be a great pick up

At the end of the day when you have someone like JT calling the shots you back him in with any 'reach' picks.

JT has a great record and here’s hoping that these two are more of his gems.

Yep.

JVR looks a bit clunky as he walks in to shoot for goal but also guides the ball right onto his boot which is big reason he is so accurate.

Wattsy was smoother but again guided the ball on to the boot and was deadly accurate.

The other similarity between those three players is a short, slow run up when kicking set set shots. Basically kicking off just a few steps. Simple techniques with few moving parts and less things that can go wrong.

BBB, our Premiership FF says hi.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
