Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lots of talk about Collingwood this and Collingwood that - though as we showed, they're more than beatable. But if it's one thing we can take from them, it's their ability to do what's needed in the dying moments of quarters. Whether that's a late clutch goal, or shutting down and defending a slim lead, it's the one area in their game that they have over all the other clubs, including ours.

Helps having a couple of really experience and skilful players to drive/lead all that, but I hope our FD and players were paying attention.

Goes you don’t need 2 dominate rucks or huge power fwds to win a flag … Getting Grundy was always risky and not to see him play was tragic and reinforced the disastrous trade.. got overhyped with the Jackson & Gawn combo, which Grundy was never going to be…. Need to use this trade period to clear the decks & chase zippy fwds & good kickers

Pies also seem to go into rugby mode in the last 5, knowing the umps won't blow the whistle.

This is my observation too. I noticed it at our game and its been the same since then. I think its a strategy. Maybe they know with the crowd the noise, the pressure umpires are under frees wont be paid. I suspect they may even have researched the stats on frees in the last 5 minutes. They are ahead of the game, looking at it as a science. You can see it in the players when they talk about their surety of winning close ones. And of course they train for it knowing most big games will be close.

Falling on top of the ball in scrums with a teammate lowering himself as well to hide the drawing of the ball back under the body.

We win the close ones as well until the pressure from Umpires decide that Goals are points, or the opposition have just got to have a free kick no matter what or in TOBY's case his head is quite expendable.

I guess Colliwobbles were going to win that game no matter what. Just as Hill was going to win that NS no matter what.

Gee just finished watching the NRL gf. Both grand finals were crackers of a game.

It's a horrible weekend if you're a lions/broncos fan this weekend.

Unfortunately the teams that won are the teams I did not want to win.

Footy is horrible sometimes

I agree. I hope it shows that you can love AFL, but still acknowledge how amazing that Panthers/Broncos game was. I found the commentary interesting around players who had already signed with competing clubs for next year. We haven't got to that stage yet - wonder how it will go down when it does arrive.....

Pretty sure we're one of the sides that did it. 17th 2019, premiers 2021

True but we changed massively from 2018 and 2019 and learned.

This year was perplexing for me. We played pre-season very aggressively through the corridor and cutting angles etc. Our first few rounds we were number one for accuracy as we played daring football and centered the ball into the corridor.

We changed game plan distinctively in rd 12 and 13 against the Blues and the pies. I assumed we wanted to play a much more defensive game plan as we were likely to meet these two teams in September. That was around the time we played a very high press, defended by playing a boundary game and we scored a shocking number of points for 3 or 4 weeks in a row.

So I fear Simon will say he only has to tweak a few minor things but the game has caught up to us and has figured us out. A game "built for finals" has failed in the last four.

And our much-vaunted leaders utterly failed in the last 100 seconds against Carlton.

We need to change quite a lot

Sidebottom said it straight up last week.

We try to keep the ball in to the pack / contest until we see an exit that we can use to go forward .

Rather than a wild handball to a nearby Demon so he can hack it further on

I wonder which is a calculation and which  is hopeful?

Yes, its ugly. Commentators are not onto it as they can keep saying it a tough contest, midfield beasts and all the rest. Game following NRL and no one seems to care.

Our leaders have given us a flag, eternal thanks but it might be time for change. The ruck thing is perplexing. When recruited Grundy we had BB, McDonald and Melk all available for the season. By mid year Goody was talking about the ruck pair needing to kick goals or else it was over.

What were everyone’s thoughts of the umpiring?

I watched the first 3 minutes and after the Daicos and Hipwood free’s I went and cleaned my garage. Then come back for the last 5 minutes before turning it off with 20 seconds to go. The advantage taken when clearly there was no advantage was massive. I’m not one for the total frees paid but more so when and where.

The non advantage call was massive. Timing and position made it even worse. What a bad umpire to call advantage before anyone even knew a free had even been paid. The free was for a clear trip and and not two seconds after the whistle or a second after a lions player kicked it straight up in the air, its play on.

If there is no clear advantage or you are not sure then just stop. It ain't too hard. How many times this year have we seen pedantic umpires calling back players to kick over the mark. What a panic merchant that umpire was.

Reasons maybe excuses yes , go to the trades in 22  of both teams & you will find the answers ..  Hill is one of them & Grundy along with the has beens from the Dogs we got

Even worse and not spoken about. The  "advantage " free should have been a free too. Disgraceful.

Maybe look at the coach  because if you think it's a contest between fans then you're reasonably pathetic

It's between teams and their coaching staff.

Collingwood actually  has a coach with  a personality ,that surely helps

On another matter anyone wondering how we had an identical number of people at the 2023 Grand Final as we did at the 2022 Grand Final?

100,024 people.

Smells very fishy to me

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
