I know today is depressing but I don’t want his performance forgotten about amidst the doom and gloom. Magnificent last night he can hold his head high. Keep his nerve when all around him was a collective clusterf. Curnow was a non factor thanks to him.

Has been AA standard the past 4 years

Wanted him as captain a couple of years back. We know he let himself down badly with that incident with Melks but boy he has turned it around.

I think he’s the best traded in player we’ve ever had

Will go down as a Dees legend come what may.

I love your work Maysey.

(mods: not sure if there's an old appreciation thread for May so feel free to merge if there is)

He did a huge job. Huge. Curnow to zero goals. We love you Maysey. Let down by so many “forward of Centre”

He kicked one goal. But May has been fantastic as has Lever.

He is somehow underrate. Which is laughable because he is probably the best FB in the game right now.
His sheer will to win is what makes him a joy to watch.

We are very lucky to have him, but he is also coming to the end of his career and not winning another flag without him and Gawn still playing top football would be a total waste. We won’t be able to replace those two.

I think Curnow scored one, still a mighty effort.

He was single-handedly winning to game for us last night.

Great thread.

He was a colossal down back. I actually feel for the big fella because they were doing their job perfectly down back but yet our forwards let us down.

The hurt and anger on his face last night was very evident.

Love your work Maysey

And incredible game by an incredible player.  Absolutely dominant and inspiring (again).

He’ll be 32 at the start of next season, so we’ll need to make the absolute most of his remaining time with us.

Also need to identify his successor to work closely under him.  With Petty now seemingly earmarked as a key forward, that successor is worryingly unclear.

Has been a magnificent competitor for us. May be 1 more year left. As for May the demons might be in their last year next year as well.

Another outstanding game from the best full back in the league.  Led our defence superbly.  Certainly not the fault of the defenders that we are now in the off-season.

Steven May has been brilliant.

Will probably still feel as gutted as the rest of us about last night. He loves the Melbourne Football Club.

Hopefully he finishes again in the top 5 in the Melbourne Demons Best & Fairest.

Should of been All Australian Full Back and hopefully will be next year.

May was elite last night, a real privilege and joy having him in our team.

Hopefully all the young defenders are taking notes from him.

And Hopefully Mayzie has a nice rest and incident free off-season! aha

He’s probably our most consistent finals player. He was amazing. If we had won that, the media would have been talking about his performance all week.

I only wish he was 5 years younger.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
