I understand Eddie is happy with the decision but to celebrate like that when someone just suffered a brain injury was in very bad taste

Eddie is a walking racist pig. No surprise that morally bankrupt fool was celebrating someone wearing prison bars getting off for caving an opponents head in. Disgusting pr*ck.

I saw ex pies player Brodie Holland wrote a long piece about Melbourne FC and it’s supporters being sooks. Bit rich coming from a known sniper and a wimp who literally burst into tears on field when he lost and had to have a cuddle from his coach to be consoled. What a tragic waste of skin his existence is. Pathetic human.

100% we need to focus on Friday. A win against the Blues will do wonders for this club.

Then more so when we knock the Bears off in Brissie and just maybe have our turn the following week against the Woods. First things first and go hard at the ball (all players) good disposal to our own players in a better position and kick bloody goals please on Friday and an easy win will eventuate.

i dont want to see us go down to the level of collingwood it will only turn out badly for us, as we must focus on playing football not getting sucked into petty revenge on the field that could result in the umpires giving them even more frees. focus on the big revenge stopping them from winning the flag. our players need to keep their cool. first we need to overcome calton then brisbane as its a good chance that we will be playing collingwood.

far out - just saw an article saying Maynard will likely be suspended for the same action next year. from the AFL

Just when i think i’m over this, the anger rises again

That sums up my take on the incident. 3 minutes into a do or die final a known enforcer wants to make a physical statement. And it worked.Β

So they're not worried about the head this year only next year. If you told someone this story they'd think you were making it up.

Given the tribunal's 'reasoning' it will be interesting how they can even make a rule to do what they want short of 'regardless how it happened, knock someone out and you are in trouble'.Β  Either that or they will effectively be saying last night's decision was wrong but next time we'll actually mount a case instead of waving a wet lettuce.

Maynard’s attempt to spoil GWS’ Daniel Lloyd in a pratice match was not looked upon favourably ... careless conduct, high impact and high contact and offered him a two-game suspension.

Lloyd was briefly knocked unconscious by the spoil and was diagnosed with a concussion in the aftermath.

Sure Laura unique.

"This incident was unique," she said. "We will review all rules and regulations, as we do every single year at the end of both of our seasons in AFL and AFLW. I won't comment on one particular rule of the game. I'll reiterate that this situation was unique.

In League, players are not permitted to have a collision with the kicker if the ball has been kicked. If a League player makes heavy contact with the kicker, in this situation, he will be suspended!

they'll have to define a sub-conscious decision as equal to a conscious decision

dunno how they'll manage that

I refuse to believe Brodie Holland is capable of writing a long piece. Must have used chat gbt.

Unique! Yes, it was.Β  But how is it that it doesn't happen regularly (with or without concussion)?Β  Because the rest of the time in smothers the players don't intentionally or recklessly do what Maynard did.Β Β Β Β  Legalism when it suits them and crack-downs when that suits. The AFL will destroy Aussie footy in time.

Just read the Hamis Brayshaw comments. Good on him for calling out the AFL for its Collingwood bias. If only heavier hitters in the industry had the gumption to do the same.

Get a psychologist on the tribunal that knows how the human mind works.

When we come toΒ consider the rough conduct (high bumps) provision, it was fairly and appropriately acknowledged by Woods (AFL) that, in order for us to find that this was a bump, there needed to be a voluntary bump,Β not a bumping into someone, but a bumping of an opponent.

Gleeson!!! Gleeson'sΒ instructions to his tribunal members to assess whether it was a β€œvoluntary” bump!!! Β Β
Wtf. That’s false.

Why ask to confirm a voluntary bump!!!! It’s careless. Β There was a duty of care not to make forceful contact. Β What in the hell happened to β€œcareless” !!!

I’m still angry.Β
Gleeson clearly biased.Β
His instructions and rationale was clearly flawed. Β

Exactly..

Anyone who can't see this for the nefarious and premeditated ( in so far as waiting for any opportunity on suitable candidates) is quite frankly...imo... naive.

Dont have to agree with me but ive played enough sport to recognise this type of player. Some will agree...some wont.

Sport , especially this one is a very athletic battle..Β  It's competitive by nature.. this can get revved up... Some don't need much...they're attack dogs....emphasis on DOG

( apologies to dogs really )Β

Consider the Who(s).. the How...the When.

Looks like a duck...sounds like....

As much as a I despise everything about this incident and the aftermath, I can't help but think why the hell didn't Gus just step Maynard once he had jumped in the air, or draw and give to Trac (Maynard's direct opponent)? Alternatively, why didn't Tracc shephard Maynard away from Gus? Watch the vision, Tracc just leaves Maynard and sprints inside 50 once he sees Gus break clear of centre leaving the sniper Maynard to have a free hit at Gus.Β

Lot of what ifs and maybes. I feel so sick about the whole thing and worry that its going to happen again to some poor guy/girl.

Azz, you’re entitled to your opinion as much as anyone else here. But it’s insensitive of you to post what you KNOW will upset the majority here.If this really is your belief, be satisfied with the result and maybe find another platform on which to express yourself.

In short, exercise some sensitivity ffs

Why the lol emoji for the above?

I’m curious as to why you’d react with laughter to a polite request for a show of sensitivity. I’m actually curious in general about what makes a bully tick; in particular, a bitter and twisted bully.Β

Seriously, you don’t know what Tracc was doing. He was running to where the ball was coming. He couldn’t shepherd Maynard, as he just ran forward towards Gus. That was unstoppable.

No sugar coated b.s.

Agree with his suggestion regarding simpletons,Β  agendas and understandings.

At half-time on TV, I saw some Pies player bragging about Cox sticking the knees into Gawny at the first bounce. Cox also tried to injure Trac later in the game. The bad thing is, the Pies know they are the biggest club, the AFL will bend the rules for them, they will get away with it, and therefore will continue to do it.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.Β  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season.Β Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table.Β The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hopeΒ that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, MelbourneΒ captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles atΒ Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.Β  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, aΒ career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested),Β nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.Β

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
