Still think that Grundy must come in

Extra midfielder and allows max to roam

Why did may and lever press so far up? Is that an instruction?

If we kick into a crowded fwd line we couldnt kick goals even if we had J Brown and Lockett down there

On Maynard i think that the best comparison is Kozzie on Baz Smith, used his body as a missile

Unfortunately Gus got K.O d but Baz played on. Koz got 3 weeks for that I think?

Psychology is a big part of footy and the modern game relies on an ability to work through your emotions. As Goody often claims, you need to be able to 're-set' both in game and from week to week.

I think we'll take care of Carlton, but the main variable, if you like, is the psychological fall out from the QF.

It can go one of two ways. Trac said the players were obviously flat after the game, which was certainly mirrored by the supporter sentiment and my own emotions.

Now, if we use that hurt and flatness, the second chance that we have, it could be the re-set that we need to kick start our way to a 14th flag. Backs against the wall, have to go the toughest route now, like the Bulldogs in 2021, and missing Petty, Melksham, JVR and now Gus (possibly forever). But unlike the Bulldogs in 2021, who IMV we had the measure of that year, if we can get to a Granny against Collingwood, I reckon our guys would be supremely confident and want to make amends.

The alternative, of course, is we are rocked by Gus' likely retirement, we're a little bit banged up ourselves after a bruising QF and Carlton running on emotion like we were in 2018, with the crowd on their side, gets it over us.

IMO, we start the first quarter well, get a small lead and convert all our gettable opportunities, and we won't be beaten.

However, how much do you guys think the psychology of losing the QF and losing Gus will play into the result this week?

I must have missed the memo. No one yet has heard that Gus has retired to my Knowledge. He might be considering many things after that event last Thursday.

While he is not understandably in his best space quite yet his recovery from concussion will be the same as the protocols are for other AFL players albeit a bit more protracted and watchful from the medics and our Club.

Only after that his intentions both short term and possibly long term May become apparent. To predict or assume an outcome is premature at this stage as we all know that his recovery is the major factor. If it's business as usual then advice will be sought on this path or the alternative delayed about this season and then his future plans down the track perhaps.

Lets not write him off or presume an out come at this stage as it has been six years since he determinedly and courageously fought  for his career and this setback may still be only a blip with his contract still awaiting and ready to fulfil should he wish if safe to do so.

I do however agree on your thoughts re our ability to still be a worthwhile player in this flag race beginning with a backs to wall effort to eliminate the Blues on Friday.  If there is one thing our boys have shown over the past 3 years is that we are not easily beaten and will fight like crazy to keep our record and standards highly competitive on this very tough elite competition.

Go Dees.

We burnt our fwds so many times with poor entries ie just bombing it in. Was this a tatic and if so why?

Most footy shows have shown the bombing  issue in particular on the couch, ignoring going short to players with space, not using the corridor, also highlighted Gawn should look to handball out of the ruck as most of his kicks go to the opposition . Are they so obsessed on the defence game that they rather go long down the line as they can defend it? You need to kick goals win flags! This will cost them winning x other flag if they don’t change

I can't seem to get sound on last night's podcast. Press play, it plays, no sound. Tried last week's podcast, and got sound, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with my device.

Can anyone help?

I forgot to cut the dead air at the start of the recording. It should start about 30 seconds in. I have replaced the audio file on the server but as your podcast app has already downloaded the episode it will have the original file.

Outstanding work as usual guys!  I was as ‘flat as a pancake’ after the C’wood result (including Gussy’s trauma), but the poddy has somewhat lifted my spirits for next Friday evening.  Well done! The work you put into the Pods is phenomenal, and appreciated enormously by this interstate Demonlander.

Really appreciate the answer to my question about selection and the 2 talls in defence but I saw it a little differently. Yes the backline was solid all night but I look a bit beyond their ability to hold the oppo score. There's never been a time this year where I've been confident with May and Lever as the only talls in the backline. Not only would 3 have possibly helped nullify  the 2 goals Mcstay scored from pure mismatches, it would have allowed Lever to do his intercept thing much easier and could have helped in the score from turnover stakes which we struggled in. Hibberd was a great inclusion, not saying it should have been at his expense, maybe Smith could have been swung down there more or used as the sub and keep Turner in.

We did keep their talls in Mihociek and Mcstay to 3 goals but at the end of the day they kicked 9 for the game so it's still a fair portion.

We lost the game with bad kicking at goal, fine it happens. However if thats going to be the case and we cant rely on it then that just means there's no margin for error from the defence no matter how good they were on the night. I think we made this selection based on the weather which didn't quite come to the extent we expected and personally I think it was the wrong one.

Sorry still very ranty and salty, it's taken a very long time to move on.

Haha, that’s of course your MFCSS reaction, Andy. Needless to say binman’s option simply had the hurdles evaporate!

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
