Ripped off at the All Australian…

Ah well, looks like we’ll just have to go and win the premiership, then!

Caleb Serong are they fugging serious?

Zach Merritt give me a spell.

You watch Jack go on Thursday Night.

Merrett didn’t make it?

Agree Viney should be ahead of Serong. Selectors counting possessions rather than influence or impact

And ripped off at the Most Courageous. Honestly giving double awards to the same players, give me a spell !!!

@binman - who besides Viney deserved to be in the AA team?

So could not give a flying F about these awards anymore. Just popularity contests based on the so called experts in the media.

Good on those who are recognised but it's just not what playing footy is about.

Disappointed for Viney. Was hoping he'd at least male the bench and get his first AA but hopefully in a few weeks he gets something better and now he can focus on winning his 2nd premiership medal.

Jack was robbed…

The thing is, some of the other teams have had a few standout players throughout the year but we have been missing continuity with some of our stars, like Clarry and Fritter, and guys like Petty. On top of that, we play as a team. Our wins have come from different guys standing up on different occasions. Kozzie has had a couple of blinders, as has Melk, as has ANB, as bad Maxxy and obviously as has Jack. It means we’re dangerous and unpredictable. I like that.

Doesn’t explain the outcome but maybe goes some way to explaining how we only managed one player in the AA team?

Butters is a deserved winner. All the respect for Jack as he is tough as nuts.

On a seperate note, I like that they’ve named true HBs  and wingers in the side. I doubt we will see the HFF side being recognised any time soon.

Viney and Rivers were stiff, specially Rivers not even in the squad.

Who are the bulls, the contested beasts in this team, they are all outside players.

If Jack cares hopefully this fuels him even more because he has been a man possesed this year.

Let Jack make ‘em all cry in September

Imagine if he becomes a Norm Smith medallist? 🔥

Dees are flying under the radar and personally I like it that way, we all know that we are really 2nd. We are a very even team focussed group that can shut teams down, change momentum score quickly when we can smell the blood in the water, we are well coached and well managed, Bring it On.!!!!!!

Think you have your wires crossed. Merrett made the team, Langford did not.

Silly awards. The Bont Most Valuable Player. He might be a great player BUT he goes missing every time that team really needs him to stand up.

Methinks Trac will go home with a little Daicos clinging to each leg.

Totally in awe they were of him.

To leave Viney out shows how clueless they are. He has had a ripper year, easily one of the most consistent mids in the league.

Has Josh Daicos really been that good or just caught up in his brother's hype? Serong, Merrett? Come on.

Merrett was on the bench.

Probably the worst AA team in a while...

Yep, we'd comfortably take care of that team. We'd have to clone Trac of course.

Every single year, without fail:

1.  Player X (from my club) should have been selected.

2.  Player Y (from another club) doesn't deserve his selection.

3.  The selectors don't have any idea.

4.  The selectors hate my club.

Rinse and repeat.

And every single year they get it wrong, particularly with captaincy

There's actually no right answer believe it or not, as this award like all AFL awards is subjective.

This is definitely a new age / changing of the guard team

They say this every year.

2021 11 new players

2022 12 new players

2023 12 new players.

Half the team are truly elite. The other half just interchange.

When we first got good I enjoyed seeing Melbourne players be a big part of these awards. Now I barely care. Jack won't either.

Bodes well and also makes logical sense that the two teams in the league that have now been top 4 the longest - us and Brisbane, have only 1 player each. It just means people don't notice how good we are anymore because they expect it, and because our contributions are very even across the side.

100%. Same reason coach of the year always goes to most improved rather than most consistently good coach.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
