Just how lucky are we to have Jake Lever at the Melbourne Football Club?

His clutch one on one contest wins and strong on field leadership were crucial in his great game against the Hawks:

- 19 disposals

- 13 marks

- 10 intercepts

- 3 score involvements

- 6 pressure acts

- 322m gained

... and 96 per cent game time. The most in the team.

Love the pod guys-one of the highlights of the week for mine.

My 2 points for this week that I would be interested to get your thoughts on:

1) Surely Melksham has cemented his spot for the rest of the season regardless of whether Fritsch, TMac or Grundy play again. He used to cop heat for putting on no defensive pressure and only being an offensive minded player who was ineffectual when the opposition had the ball but the roles he has played this year nullifying the oppositions intercept marker has been a great transformation in his game and important going forward for the team.

2) Tomlinson although having his colours lowered yesterday is also a lock for mine. Plays a sacrificial role and allows lever to do what he does best. On Brownlow night when Lever gets the 3 votes for yesterdays game he can thank Tomo for that.

When Hawthorn beat Collingwood recently, there were great wraps placed on Mitch Lewis, Jai Newcombe, Chad Wingard and of course James Sicily.

I'd like to hear the panel's view of Melbourne's performance yesterday in light of the fact that three of their star players from that game were missing - out injured.

I would love a 5 minute rant from @binman re the AFL and they way they have handled the whole ARC review and umpires calls disaster.

What is going to happen when this occurs in a big finals match ?

I thought it was interesting that we took off Tomlinson given the game was still tight. Can we go go into the finals without him? I feel he’s an important player as he can take a key forward and free up Lever.

Milkshake has become one of our most important players. Kicks goals (should have had 5 yesterday) and his shut down role on the oppositions best rebounding / marking defender has been key. Do the panel think we could play a forward line of Smith, Fritch, Melksham and JVR as the only real tall? I do not think Tmac, having missed so much footy both this year and last year will be the hero a lot of supporters are pinning there hopes on.

I've got to cut off the questions here. Hard cut guys. I have a lot to put together to get all these to flow seemlessly.

Love all of your contributions. They are an integral part of the show.

PRO TIP: Get questions in early.

Andy, I just heard you say that we haven't put four quarters together in 2023, where in 2021 we did.

I'd love to know which game we played four quarters in. We didn't even manage 3 great quarters in the GF. Maybe the prelim against Geelong and the Brisbane QF. Prior to finals though, I don't recall us putting together 4 quarters.

Maybe that first Bulldogs game in 2021.

Suns game? Adelaide late in the year? Have no stats in front of me.

Maybe the Suns game, but the Adelaide game was a complete slog, where we banged on late goals to get it out to 7. Fritta went berserk.

And haha love the multi tasking.

@binman If Melbourne win the flag this year I put all down to your extreme confidence. Your confidence makes my optimism look like 1159pm on the doomsday clock!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
