Thats why the goal umpire should only say goal or point  - please check if it was touched.

Why bring a second fallible human into the equation. Just let the umpire make the call.

That looked every bit a goal.
Daylight between ball and post, and it went over the padding.

Not in a million years did that hit the padding. And could well have cost the Crows a final spot.

Impossible for crows to make it now so it absolutely cost them a chance at making it.

That’s a gutsy call by the goal ump. Players  coming back at him, he’s unbalanced and makes the decision the ball has grazed the post.

That was an even worse goal umpire call than ours last week. That they didn’t even go to a review is mind blowing. Terrible error of judgement.

That is not good vision once again. It’s definitely not showing me a touch or spike on edge. Pathetic from the AFL. What an amateur league.

Because that's the reason they brought the ARK into the game.

Way above the padding.

Won't waste my time looking for the AFL response, which will be "nothing to see".

And the AFL have Sydney into finals, as they would like.

Still, hopefully SYD will be buggered next weekend - tough wet game, flight home etc/. Papley probably injured and McCartin maybe (though probably not given the stakes for AFL Sydney) suspended for his high hit in Q4.

It is well past time to change the rule so that wherever the ball ends up, that is the score.  Through the goals, goal.  Through the behind space, behind.    OOB, OOB.

If it bounces back into play, maybe play on?

Ok, so we’ve spent 10 years integrating this system and we’ve had 2 decisions in a row decided by an umpires mistake.

So how is this better? Go back to the old system. I can’t handle another week of broadcasters telling me I’m not seeing what I can clearly see.

A bit like us last week.

Can very well argue that’s cost Adelaide the game, and finals. On what I’ve seen online so far, that didn’t hit the post.

But can also argue they lost it themselves. 4.8 in the last quarter to 0.1. And perhaps if they hadn’t fallen 44 down early.

Last week on repeat. Should have been called a goal. Then check will show no evidence to overturn.

Amateur hour.

If it hit the padding it could only have been the back half.

if the hole ball's crossed the line that doesn't count either does it?

Where was the review?  The Fix continues!

Come again? Why did they bring the ARC into the game?

Man the crows just got robbed HARD. That was 100% a goal!!!!

The worst part was 4-5 Crows players were too busy celebrating and that enabled the Swans to clear the ball from the kick in with ease really.

I've no idea if it hit or not. maybe he heard a sound. he called it straight away.

Potentially top 2 and Top 8 positions decided by poor ARC technology/procedures. It's simply not good enough.

Either get better tech or let the humans make mistakes and don't review anything at all.

in recognition of umpiring being  so pathetic, every game where the final result is less than 2 goals should be declared a draw

call it score equalisation

I thought the ball was deflected. The issue was confused by the commentators saying that it hit the padding which it clearly didn't.

Makes tomorrow a must Winn and  go freo tomorrow and tiges next week

Nah hard disagree, that would happen a million times and it's on the umpire to make sure the decision is correct when it clearly doesn't touch the post. Should've reviewed it.

I want players celebrating after goals, especially ones that are saving their season with 1 minute left after being down by 44 points...

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
