Orlando Turner is a lightly built small forward who is in Melbourne’s NGA through our Alice Springs connection.

#20 Orlando Turner

Small Forward | 16/05/2005 | 176cm | 67kg
A National Academy member with nice upside and a bag of tricks, Turner helped ensure the Northern Territory would be aptly represented in the carnival with his two games. He was rotated after gathering six disposals in game one, but returned in game four against Vic Country and booted two goals from eight touches – the second of which both iced the game and the title.

With a name like that, I'm on board already.

We should get him just to break the record for the number of turners on one AFL list - if we haven't already

Rookie draft maybe

Not great footage here but in this one he takes a mark and kicks a goal around the 7.37 minute mark. Haven't watched it all thoroughly so may pop up elsewhere throughout the video as well.

Wearing #11

Edit: kicks another goal @8.57 and involved in a bit more play 10seconds later

From my VC v Allies write up

Orlando Turner kicked the match winner , quiet all day but has burst of pace and looks like he knows where the goals are. Probably rookie pick at best.

overall summary

Orlando Turner is from NT under our NGA academy. Whilst he was largely quiet, in the two championship games, he showed glimpses of brilliance and goalkicking smarts to indicate he might be picked to develop as a small forward.  Rookie pick likely.

My mates cousin is involved with us for the academy, but I don’t recognise this name. I know Kozzie was over at his house a bit when they were here.

Is there a list anywhere of our NT academy kids?

ARN seems like a natural fit. Trumps Orlando in the name-stakes. Though Riak is pretty cool.

The Melbourne NGA covers parts of NT (Alice Springs) and it has a Victorian zone as well. Luke Morrell is from Beaconsfield, Buay Duac plays for the Dandenong Stingrays via Seaford/South Mornington.

Pretty sure he would be the first Orlando to play AFL if he makes it.

And if Alonzo Rockland-Nelson makes it, I’m pretty sure that he would be the first Alonzo to make it. What a strange world it is that we live in?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
