dazzledavey36 56,334 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) Can I just say wowza on this Petty performance! That was some kind of performance. Some of his contested marking was absolutely nuts and then his ability to provide pressure when the ball hits the ground is first class. I mean realistically take your pick between Petty and JVR Have we potentially just saved huge cap space in going out and buying a marquee forward?? I think so now! Left Foot Snap 2,609 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I love the mongrel he brings to the forward line. Even if he is having a quiet day, it will help keep the defenders honest. 10 Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 It’s his to lose now (given Brown’s body troubles), great performance. Tomlinson needs to stay in the backline (Lever and May need a third defender) and Smith needs to play the third tall forward role full-time. Too often Richmond intercepted our forward entries because we were well outnumbered. 4 Quote
WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 For the first time of the year. I feel we can actually win the flag due to Petty up forward. 10 3 Quote

I don't want to lose that given we're now conceding so many scores. 3 Quote
Smokey 4,391 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Had decent oppo on him too. I’ve long advocated for petty as a forward. Him and JVR are the future key forward structure 100%. 9 Quote
Smokey 4,391 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Strange feeling when our key forwards delivered most of the score rather than smalls and mids. Great signs 4 1 2 1 Quote

Bombay Airconditioning 6,508 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Said in the 1st qtr I was wrong, didn’t see that coming. But what a game, after a couple of Turkey’s he took me back to the days of Neita. 3 Quote
Hopeful Demon 1,541 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) Petty's performance today reminded me of Tmac against the Eagles back in 2017. It was the game where announced himself as a genuine key forward. I wouldn't be surprised if Petty has a 50+ goal season in 2024, just like Tmac did in 2018. BLWNBA 1,483 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Insanely premature to make this call off the back of one game, particularly given he’s struggled (IMO) previously. 4 1 Quote

Rob Mac...... 643 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Yes!!! Best MFC KPF game in ages. Up with 2021 TMac or Neita etc.. 6 straight and a fine team game. 2 Quote
Roost it far 10,136 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) @picket fenceHey Champ, Petty says hi with his 6 goals Apologies upfront for being a smart [censored], I love your training reports but my lower self couldn’t resist. Edited July 30, 2023 by Roost it far 6 4 Quote
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Balta is a strong player too. I really rate him, particularly one on one. I loved in the second quarter when Harry ran straight at the kicker a couple of times and it created space all around him. In wasn’t just his obvious strong marking, it was his leading with pace that really impressed. 3 1 Quote
Vitamin Dee 903 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Petty reads the ball flight so well. Interested to see who goes out for Fritch when fit. can’t be a small, and Melksham is playing some influential footy. 3 Quote
gs77 4,614 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Petty's contested marking and dead straight kicking today was just sublime. Fantastic stuff. 1 1 1 Quote
Jibroni 5,057 Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) He reminded me of Neita today, clean grabs and kicking was elite. And JVR is developing nicely, imagine if he took that speccie. Tomlinson had his struggles today but I would give him another chance next week. Edited July 30, 2023 by Jibroni 8 1 Quote

Marquee forwards are nearly impossible to land and cost a fortune, the idea we could pluck one to begin with is hard. That said, I’m not turning down Jezza Cameron or Lynch on below market money because of one amazing Petty game. But unless that happens we should aim for another quality swing man or good depth talls with scope for both ends. Petty and JVR have at least provided reason not to panic and pay massive overs for questionable players. 4 Quote
