So you reckon pick 4, 18, 23 & a player like Tomlinson would do it???

The Crows offered North Pick 4 and their 2022 first-round pick and Melbourne’s 2022 first-round pick and North said no. It would have to be 2 top 10 picks for North to be interested which would be unlikely.

Pick 4, 5 and Future 1st

I remember then saying similar things about JHF, and look what happened

I'd do it, but would North?

Also not convinced we are the most likely to get the Suns pick but we have a good hand to make a play.

Edit: if they do receive pick 2 from the McKay compensation (they shouldn't but that's another debate) then it could actually help us to an extent.

Roos would then consider picks 2, 5, 6 and future 1st.

Vs

1 and 2.

Pretty decent haul.

Big call to say no to Reid though for them.

The Doggie implosion has blown-up an in-principal deal with WCE for us to get Reid.  Lyon has been involved at a personal level.

The final decision whether to exercise the deal, by both WCE and MFC had yet to be made.  Plenty of water still to go under the bridge between now and November.  Nevertheless, we have been actively pursuing Reid as an option on how to spend our draft bonanza.  It would seem we are still keen to have this option with NM, but considering everything our chances are now weak.

There is zero chance that we had an “in-principal” deal with WCE. It is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard, I have no idea how people still get sucked in by your garbage. The part about Lyon being “involved at a personal level” did give me a laugh though, so points there.

Given Nths list, they really don't need Reid; they are stacked for midifled talent. Trading 1 to us for multiple top picks could really fast track their rebuild, and they could still get Curtin plus other young guns, including a gun small forward in Watson

Please excuse me for picking up on the peak irony of us actually wanting/needing Reid compared with North based on your midfield assessment. 🤣👍

What's Lyon's role in this? We don't have to convince Reid of anything, we just give him a courtesy heads up that we, a top 4 Victorian club, like him and want to draft him, and he may hear that we're after pick one to do it. What's not to like?

It's the holder of pick one that needs convincing.

I’ll take a shot. North are [censored] right now. They lost a few veterans. They’ll be worse next year as the list hits rock bottom. They are short of a KPD, small forwards and and a variety of other roles.

Do they take a crack at trying to get Curtin, Watson and McKercher. Or go with Reid? They will already get Sanders by all accounts.  That’s 4 guns that in 2-3 years time will be talked about regularly.

im happy either way.

North are every chance to trip up this week.

Dimma might pull a few strings and rest Rowell, Anderson, Miller, Ballard and Collins.

Sure, but remind me of how old Trac and Viney are and who their replacements are going to be.

I don't think North will trade the first pick. But they are stacked with young midfield talent, while we haven't taken a midfielder in the first round, let alone the top 10, since Clarry.

No disrespect RPFC but over the years I have openly spoken on what I have heard.  Some things have come to be, some have not.......... and sometimes yes, you have annoyed me so much I have had some fun.

Perhaps you forget some of my scoops like  Roos a lock to coach the Dees next season a done deal after round 7, 2013.  The abuse I copped on here for 9 months was extraordinary........ but no apologies in the end.

Anyone can go through my record if they could be bothered, the truth is its far better than any journalist as I have enjoyed a direct ear from the very top for a long time.  There is plenty more I hear that I simply dont tell as its not in the MFC interest.

To suggest I make it up is not true. I have rarely done this, when I have it's been so obvious, it's been to get you back.

This place is pretty boring most of the time. What is the point of having a rumour thread if those hearing rumours only get abused, or belittled when things don't eventuate.

Unfortunately, I am terminally ill, I have been for 3 years.  This will be my last season to pass on what I hear.  So enjoy it while it lasts.

As for Reid, what I have written is 100%, we had an in principal agreement with WCE....... but as I said who knows whether it would have eventuated anyway.

GNF that is very sad news you have passed on about your health. I wish you and I am sure the whole of DL also joins me in wishing you all the best.

I hope you receive more joy from the Dees and that you are with us for much longer than you or your Doctors think.

I have enjoyed your posts and rumours of course don’t always come true. I have always looked forward to reading footy rumours and taken them with a grain of salt.

All the best mate, thinking of you.

Don't think the Dee's were, Lyon had a meeting with Reid's parents in Kyabram, where Lyon is from. I wouldn't think Lyon would have any official connection with MFC anymore.

No, Ralph was hinting that Melbourne FC had a meeting with Reid on Monday,  he tried to get it out of Gary but he just let it go through to the keeper.

Sorry Travy but I have to correct you,

JR to GL  Did you have a meeting with Harley Reid's parents in Kyabram on the weekend.

GL reply Yes I did, very nice people to.

JR to GL  Have the Demons had a chat with Harley, do you know ?

GL reply If they haven't they should, but after the events of the weekend probably no use or words to that effect.

GNF ...sorry for your troubles. Hang in there we need all the supporters we can get!

So if Suns put in a shocker in Tassie what do Norff do? Do they kick the ball over the fence everytime they get it. They cant win or lose Reid.

The AFL has got to stop giving Norff 1st and priority picks. If they get their 4th spoon next year they get pick 11 and thats all in R1. Done  FFS.

So sorry to hear this GNF. Personally I’ve always appreciated and enjoyed you passing on what you hear. Thanks for being part of my  DL experience. Wish you well in your transition 🙏🏼 Hopefully the boys can bring home a flag for you.

Would be hilarious if the Suns rest several more players like Geelong and a young North side want to win, despite who they have on the field.

Despite resting players and switching them around, what else can Clarko do to ensure a loss.

If a miracle happened and WC get 1, the only way for us to get Reid, is for Curtin to absolutely convince North and Hawks he will go home in 2 years.

For one of them to take him in those circumstances, would be extremely foolish. Another JHF situation, which would heave the fans furious.

I think this Reid situation is just too difficult to happen for us.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
