Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Some of that is pretty basic forward craft. They seem to make the basic stuff easily to fix almost impossible.

We have players openly available outside of 50 waiting to be hit up but we just blaze away.

Its such a simple fix for the brain trust chocco, Ooze, Staf, Chap surely would have pointed this out and highlight these issues during video edits.

SURELY???

Either our players have the lowest collective football IQ in the game or they are being instructed to play this way.

I firmly believe it’s the latter.

We don’t have many good kicks in the side and the game plan is tailored to suit that but someone training every single day of the week should be able to hit a lead from 25-30 metres in their sleep

The sad part about this is its nothing new, its been going on for years. It's a sad state of affairs and is so messy, it just looks like the plan is to get it in and create chaos. Dumb footy, you see more leads in bush footy.

Been happening for a long time. Even in 2021 it was an issue throughout the season. It just clicked when it mattered.

The burning of the free players to bomb it in really ticks me off.

It's 💯 percent instructed, if nothing has changed in regards to our entries this week or next week we are doomed.

Our game is in such good shape but our entries are undoing all of our great work around the ground.

I don't understand how as a forward group you wouldn't recognise this bring it up in meetings discussing how we can better reward for our forwards with cleaner entries.

And player drop off as well.

Bbb nowhere near it.

Tmac could impact and kick straight, now nowhere to be seen.

Fritsch selfish and can't finish

Koz is koz at least he can hit a target and make things happen.

Tracc can't finish

Our half forward are too defensive but that's a game style thing.

Grundy is ineffective I'd rather play schache

Gawn down on form.

Do we have anyone else? Just a complete [censored] show down there which is complicated by ineffective midfield ball use.

Viney is tough as nails but rarely hits anything. Although in fairness to him he's been better this year and has plenty of company.

It feels like the questions should be put to Simon Goodwin, rather than going after the players (ANB’s howler aside)

If it’s being instructed, take the heat off the players and own up to it, it’s certainly no big secret to anyone what we do

Does anyone seriously think the coaches are instructing the players entering the 50 to kick as high and long as possible, preferably to Stewart/Haynes etc?

if its true they should all be sacked.

but Its extremely unlikely to be true

So you think every single player in the side is ignoring the coach and blazing away?

That’s harder to imagine

Nails it.... many of us suggesting as much.

To be honest anyone watching us play would be puzzled.    How can a team play so well down back...and be utterly clueless up front.

And yet here we are....

Is there the will to fix is the big question.

Why are so many glaring errors committed?

True to our Hades heritage....we just burn people.

clearly not.

tired players, pressure high, wet ball. much easier to slam it on the boot.

Bowey McVee and Sales are the only ones with any composure, although it can be easier down back with less 360 degree pressure

No it shows that they’re dumb footballers whose skills aren’t good enough. ANB, who despite being a trier and a great clubman, sums that up.

I look at how bloody hard Jack Viney has been playing this season. Must be incredibly frustrating watching it go in and then get run back past you 15 seconds later.

Question...

If its not ordained/condoned... why does it persist??

If it's against the "plan" it would be quickly reigned in.  But it's not. It persists week in week out.

So why is that ??

This has to be the most damning stat of all:

"According to Champion Data, Melbourne is overall the best contested possession team in the competition. Specifically, Simon Goodwin’s side is ranked first in the league for contested possessions won in both the defensive 50 and midfield.

But alarmingly, the Dees are ranked 16th for contested ball in their forward 50"

Even if the talls bring it to ground our ground level players can't win it.  So we are losing in the air and on the ground.

So much for having so many defensive forwards!!

I suspect a couple of things here.

It would be interesting to see how many of our inside 50's are from us winning the ball back and pushing it back inside.

If this number is as I suspect then the forwards are playing a defensive role in assisting turnovers.

...but I think we would all be happier with less inside 50's with greater scoring efficiency.

I just don't know that we have the players to do it.

One thing to remain positive about is it clearly shows we have forward half options.

Maybe, but options who get burned tend to be shy the next time. Trust and commitment is hard won, easily forgotten, and not linear in its return.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
