Demon Disciple 12,537 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 At 13-12, we’re a middle of the ring team. An accurate reflection I’m afraid. Not worthy of top 4 based on that effort. 4 1 Quote

DemonWA 3,941 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Not surprised by the stat, but equally, it doesn't mean we're not a decent team either. As Trac said we finished tip 4 last year and are currently 4th. The competition is very even 2 Quote
Kozzie4PM 765 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 It's good for track to hear we are 13 and 12 in the last 25. I liked his answers and think we will finish top 4 this year. But I don't consider us a top 4 team last year. We only made the second round of the finals - that's top 6. 1 Quote
Jack Vineys Anger Manager 425 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 We are 43/16/1 since the start of 2021, with a premiership to show for it. I'm very proud of my club. Everyone, outside of some of our own supporters respect us. Right now is the best time to be a demon. I hope some on here don't miss what is currently happening. 13 1 Quote
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 I’d suggest we’ve also had the hardest last 25 games of anyone in the comp by a fair margin too. That’s a David King style stat - it’s entirely meaningless without context. 2 1 Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 The last 25 games are irrelevant now. I’s the next 15 that count! 9 1 Quote

Gouga 570 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) We are a 43-1-16 team sice Round 1 2021, including a premiership. Anyone feel better now? Edited May 31, 2023 by Gouga Edit: apologies, missed previous post saying the same thing. 4 1 1 Quote

Little Goffy 14,963 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 If you don't count ten games we won, our last two seasons are looking pretty average. Love it. 4 1 Quote

deanox 10,070 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) While it isn't super pretty, I'd add a couple of comments: 1. Despite only 13 wins putting us in 8th place during that time, we have the second highest percentage in the comp, indicating potential under performance. 2. If we win clinch only two close games that we've lost, we jump to 3rd on the ladder. Freo by 7, PA by 4, Collingwood by 7, Dogs by 10, Sydney by 12 were all close games. Technically Brisbane by 11 as well. That's 6 games lost under 2 goals. (Conversely we've only won 2 close ones: GC by 5, Carlton by 5. With only another couple under 20 points) 3. Last year we all think we went to hard early and fell in a heap late. This year, we hope they have learnt from that, and are going through the motions now so that they are primed for finals. That means this ladder reflects the worst of last season and hopefully the worst of this season! If we won 10 straight to start this year we should have been asking "what have we learnt, are we going to fall over again?" Edited May 31, 2023 by deanox Added extra info about close games 2 2 Quote
Fanatique Demon 2,764 Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 It all makes sense now. My wife says I’ve been in a bad mood for the best part of a year. She thinks it’s the statins I’m on. Now we know it’s the stats. 3 Quote

layzie 34,528 Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 I would say 7-4 is a an excellent reflection of where we are at. No need to re-invent the wheel of data on this one. 1 Quote

If we won 10 straight to start this year we should have been asking "what have we learnt, are we going to fall over again?" Point 2 is a really good point. I did not realise that. With point 3 I may not be in the majority but I don't think we "went too hard too early", I just think we had an easy draw. I don't buy the idea that winning games at the start of the year makes it harder to win games at the end. Quote
Kozzie4PM 765 Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 I'm usually at the more optimistic end of the spectrum so it feels weird to be coming in more negative than many of the above posters. But the facts are the facts folks. We are 13 and 12 over the last 25 and have rarely looked like a contender during that time. If we include the last two matches of 2020 we were 32-1-4 up to round 10 last year. An extraordinary record. The fact is those are two very different sets of numbers. I think we can win the flag this year. But we aren't playing anywhere near well enough at the moment and haven't for a very long time. Fortunately, it doesn't really matter how we're playing at the moment and there's still ample time for improvement. But make no mistake, significant improvement is required. Quote

YesitwasaWin4theAges 6,825 Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 (edited) We have definitely changed the way we play in one of the defensive transition aspects of our game. We have sagged off on our half field press. We longer have a defensive wall outside 50 for those dump kicks. This is mainly because teams are being coached to either handball out or hit up players with 15-20 m chip kicks exiting when our F50 lacks tackle pressure. Having said that Freo on the weekend did dump kick on 4-5 occassions and landed directly into Freo hands then they were off. This is a direct result of our hard press being released and why you see us out numbered in the middle third of the ground.. Oppo teams have definitely worked us out hitting shorter targets with their kicks especially in board where we have no strong zone coverage in the center square what so ever. Whilst we had our chances to win both games against Powa and Freo our weakness in our mid zone compressing coverage this year and last has allow team to be more brave against us and kick through once a strength now a major weakness.
