I'm surprised we never tried playing Harmes as more of a forward over the last couple of years.

He's always been a good mark overhead and has a knack of finding the goals.

Should've sent Tomlinson to North for pick 2 when we had the chance 😆

When were we offered pick 2 for Tomlinson?

I generally agree and think that's his best spot (despite inaccuracy in front of goals late this season). But in reality Sparrow held that forward/midfield rotation position and was in better form than Harmes.

He can't play ANB or Pickett's roles. He doesn't play Fritsch or Melkshams role. And he doesn't play Petty, Brown or TMacs role. And ultimately they went with Spargo, Woewodin or Laurie ahead of him at times as the 7th option.

It's a surprisingly tough forward line to crack!

Had several chances to hit the scoreboard late in the season and blew them all from memory. Richmond and Hawthorn games?

But I agree, he is/was good overhead for his size.

He got figured out. Didn’t add any strings to his bow. Honest trier but not much more.

You saying a hard tag?

Actually, I thought he had a real future as a tagger

Was fantastic in GF

All the best James, always a demon premiership player. If Oskar Baker can get 18 senior games in 2023. I'm sure you'll get more than you did this year

Bulldogs have 39, 47 and 52.

The will need to keep approximately 1000 draft points (based off a bid at 13 and 20% discount)

39, 47 and 52 = 1008 points.

They've traded their future 1st so can't trade a f2 or f3.

Interesting to see how this trade gets done.

Third club may get involved?

Also a knack for getting in the bloody way!

Any player we might be interested in?

Going to be quite thin on for midfield depth without Dunstan, JJ and Harmes.

Straight swap with the Bont seems fair

How does going to the Bulldogs help Harmes get regular midfield time? Surely their midfield is equal to ours, and probably bats deeper.

Regardless, we are seriously lacking midfield depth and anyone thinking that Laurie might ever be an AFL midfielder is delirious. Woewodin may get there in a couple of years, and Howes is not an inside mid.

Love Harmsey and wish him all the best, but:

1 - I hate Bevarage and the Dogs

2 - How does this make any sense for him.  No more opportunities at the dogs is there?

Who is even left as depth? Laurie, Woewodin? Yet to debut - Howes, Moniz-Wakefield?

Concerning.

Apparently some mild interest in Billings

If we didn't get Fullarton I'd be interested in Jordon Sweet as a young promising ruck - always going to be bridesmaid to English

Would be ironic if they give us the Pick (Future 4th) we traded for Schache last year.

In reality, one of their third round picks probably gets it done.

Wonder if we could do Harmes and 41 for 39 & 52?

52 would be fodder for a Brown bid match.

Hopefully he gives all his stuff to Jon Amos

All the best Harmesy.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
