Where the hell is Heritage Bank Stadium? Belfast? I thought we were at Carrara.

Given Metricon nearly went belly up, sponsoring a footy ground mightn’t have been a good look.

Taking the eldest up for his first proper game (saw swans and suns at Lismore 2017 pre season). Pumped.

Got a mate up from Melbourne who just said “who’s max Gawn” - he’s an Essendon supporter though so there is that

Except the game….

Smith has been injured for 900 years. He won’t just waltz into the seniors after one game. And if you’re dropping two tall forwards for a utility and a defender, who is playing forward?

Both my In’s are skilled footballers, We got dudded losing Weed for Sashy,

Van Rooyen is trying to play like the Texan and Tomahawk, but he’s way to small,  got nothing else, I just can’t see it.

Joel is a champ, talk to anyone down at the club.

Do you say stupid things to get a reaction or are you serious?

In: Joel Smith/ Turner

Out: Van Rooyen/ Sach

Got nothing to lose, throw at the stumps.

Both outs have been a liability in my reckoning.

Sure Joel may be a skilled footballer, but he has played one VFL game in half a season, and has only just resumed full training.   Not nearly ready for a recall.  He could have been a champ, but has never had the opportunity to show it.

And what do you mean by losing Weed for Sashy - didn't we suggest / ask Weed to move on so how were we dudded?

JVR a liability???  Have you watched our games?  He not only kicks goals (only 1 v NM) but also works up the ground and is coming along very nicely for a 6 gamer.

Weed asked to be traded IIRC.  Schache was then recruited to fill his role.

GC 3 straight wins now. This isn’t the soft  kill  it looked like a few weeks ago… they’ll be primed to rest themselves against one of the best.

Happy if they rest themselves against us Wellsy😊A 50 point win will suffice for me.

I definitely don’t disagree.
But to be fair they have only won 2 in a row and those win have been against North and Richmond. They lost to Freo in round 5 and got smashed by the Saints in round 4.
They aren’t the soft kill North are tho.

Jason Taylor said in the netflix draft show that Schache was needed as our emergency ruck should Max/Brody go down as we had no-one else.

I was really hopeful for Josh to show something on Saturady night but gee he reminded me of Weid in some ways.  Should be given a chance though if it arises, but not best 22.

Loved James Jordan's inputs and he should remain.  Not a winger. That's now covered .

Would like to see J.Smith play forward pocket. So what if he has been out for so long he should be conditioned to play.Never play him as a defender as he generally gets injured. Ins J.Smith,BBB,Petty out Hibberd(rest),JVR(rest) and Schache (omitted).

I wonder if Schache is the kind of player that will one day, out of nowhere, have an out-of-body experience and play possessed (out of necessity) like Tom Boyd in the 2016 GF in the ruck.

Both players not too dissimilar as very high draft picks that did not live up to expectations, but still had/have the talent to stick around on the list with their potential to have that one off out of the box performance that can turn a match. That's why im pretty glad we have him on our list as as a back up when needed to contribute again, but the option is there. He might be crucial in a final, who knows.

Percentage!!!

I wouldn’t treat the Suns in such a cavalier fashion after their win over Richmond yesterday.

This will not be an easy game. Watched some of their game against the Richmond yesterday and they clearly looked the better team. We should go in with our best team and take it seriously.

Thought Noah Anderson was sensational yesterday. The cream rising to the top there and he can do some damage, I'd be more wary of him than Rowell in this game.

A contradiction in terms, no?

This makes literally no sense.

It took us all night to beat the tigers, they are in this match and will go in confident they can win.

I would not be at all surprised if JVR has a rest next week. Petty for JVR and Spargo for JJ.

Jvr had a poor game which is no knock on a 19 year old kid in his 4th game.

As much as I don't really rate the tigers.GC got them off a short break after a tough game against us,  and alot of their key players are about a season away from retirement and would have been sore

We softened the tigers up for them:cool:

But seriously, not a match to be taken lightly.  Mid way through last year, when we were still unbeaten, it was reported that our club thought the hardest match to date was vs GCS at Metricon.

The team will not and definitely should not take this game lightly.  We should win but it won't be easy.  As you say they will be confident with their form and their game vs us last year so will put up a fight.

Fans shouldn't get complacent either.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
