I don't mind dermie. But I learn a lot from Richo.

Richo is one of the best, these days. I, too, learn from his insights.

Just listened to McGuire on Footy Classified take a pot shot at the Dees, again. This time it was a segment on the Big Freeze. He was spruiking the potential massive crowd. He couldn’t resist chucking in the old “we know the Pies fans will turn up, we just need the Dees fans to too. They need to pack the MCC” - how insulting. The bloke might want to check the fact tht the biggest crowd attendance since 2001 was a Melbourne home game in 2018. Shove it up ya jumper Ed.

Honestly who cares

They got 71,000 last week against the Swans at 3.20pm on a Sunday, in shocking weather.

As much as I dislike the bloated frog bogan….he has somewhat of a point.

Anzac day was the biggest home and away crowd that year, as it is most years.

Ours was third highest, thanks to collingwood mainly.

Eddie is right whether people like it or not. We show up to marquee games but we're pretty disappointing against lesser or interstate sides at the G. I'm not sure that can be questioned.

No doubt we'll show up for the King's bday. But we should be showing up in big numbers against the Freo's and North's etc also.

Collingwood got 60k + against Port the other month at the G on a wet day too. Yes they have huge membership numbers, but they consistently show when their side is doing well.

Melb supporters pick and choose a bit too much for my liking.

He's not wrong, pie fans do turn up. Watching their games I'd sense their players would feel they have a 23rd man playing. It's nuts the amount of noise and atmosphere they create at the ground.

Whether you like them or not they turn up in droves every single weekend. Can't question them on that.

No one I've ever known speaks like that, but several TV journalists do,  including some from overseas. It must be taught at 'journo school'. I agree, It is infuriating!

Something which annoys me (the Demonland podcast is also an offender with this but I forgive you guys because I love the show) is when pundits say something like “the players in the Melbourne midfield, the Olivers, the Petracca, the Vineys”. Ugh, there’s just one Oliver, one Petracca and one Viney.

I forget that there's a Wednesday Footy Classified..

There are reasons Colonwood fans show up and Dees fans will never compete (or want to):

  • persecution mentality
  • empty lives and loneliness
  • high levels of disposable income - dropping $250 a weekend to take the family to the game leaves little money for the dentist
  • their residential accommodation is right next to the train station and bus stand
  • one of the fathers of their children is probably playing

Lets not limit this to melb supporters. Below crowds are Coll home games from last season. I wonder what has changed from this year to last???????

25k v WCE

36K v ADEL

30K v GWS

and Rich 28k v WCE last week

That is all.

And first crack although King can be annoying at times. At least they try and take an analytic approach to reviewing the games.

Why, oh why, have the TV broadcasters gone back to using so many close-ups of live action? It becomes impossible to determine what the action is that we're supposed to be watching. I'm OK with using the close-up for replays when detail might be of interest, but the flow of the game is impossible to ascertain when the close-ups are being used of live play.

For the last year or two, possibly more, they had abandoned the close-up for live play. That was so much better. Whoever the bright spark is who thought it was a good idea to re-introduce it should be given their marching orders.

Is it because the commentators are sitting in a studio in Melbourne and it is too hard for them to identify players on a wide angle shot? The only explanation I can think of.

Exactly - where was the comments about Richmond supporters falling off the bandwagon when they only get 28k vs WCE?

I blame it all on the soft-on-crime government which means there are Collingwood supporters who should be in gaol but are instead roaming the streets.

More likely they like how inpredictable the play is if the viewer can't see what other players are around and likely to affect the play. Adds to the tension to not know what is happening.  Very annoying.  But as worse is the close up of the player who has taken a mark or free. Far better to see what his options downfield are rather than if he used a sharp razor for his morning shave.

I think it's because the producers believe viewers want to see the players close up. Some probably do; but I don't.

I could certainly do without the seemingly obligatory slow motion close up on the face of the goalkicker shouting "Come on!" after every goal.

I can't imagine those saintly Collingwood players ever doing the wrong thing on the football field, even when somebody chooses their words poorly in an interview prior to the game.

I suppose Eddie was just as vocal when his beloved thugs attacked Jack Watts in his first game? What a f’ing hypocrite.

Sounds like sleight of hand to take heat off the Franklin booing situation.

Good call. I also think King is annoying… but credit where credit is due, he has taught me things about how team game plans work that I haven’t seen anywhere else. He does put the work in and it shows.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
