Hey … let’s not forget the clubs that are involved in this scenario. Gold Coast and Geelong.

Deal’s almost done. Cats to get GC’s first round pick along with King. GC gets Cats future third round pick as steak knives in the deal.

Some might forget a player who went at #2 in his draft year, potential forward with lots of time on the clock, Schache?  Anyone?  Plus JVR, Jefferson and even H Petty.  Stay calm…..

I just read somewhere that we are one of the clubs that will go hard for King when he's contract comes out as the end of 2024.

Now I need to go find this somehow..

If you want a key tall for 2 years time look no further than Daniel Curtin in this years draft, this kid is special.

It”s not just his KPP attributes, the decision making and poise this kid has for a tall are something I’ve not seen in many players. I’m talking Pendlebury type poise and awareness of what is happening around him. Can play at either end with CHB probably his best position

My understanding from informed Saints fans is that they want Ben King so that they can play Max as a key backman. They believe thats where he would be best suited and would star there. Max to play FF.

If we still had Yze coaching us, we would have a quirky bonus to offer, as the King twins are the only other players to come from Albania, other than Adem.

All this kid has to do is kick a few bags of 5 this year and he'll nearly demand a seven figure contract on a long term such is the hype around the brothers.

As much as I rate them both, I don't see how we could possibly afford a King brother with the big contracts already in place for so many of our premiership stars.

Yes, we'll lose BBB, TMac, Hibberd, Melksham and a few other fringe players in the next 24 months but in the twilight of there careers, they'd surely be on bugger all and we'll need to free up some serious coin for Kozzy who I think we just pay him whatever he wants - such is his importance.

I'd rather us take our two first rounders and bring next years forward again (someone will bite) and inject another crop of elite talent to learn from the best in the business.

Then why didn’t you?

We have drafted JVR and Jefferson for his very (long term) reason and currently have two Premiership tall forwards in Tmac and Brown.

Whats the problem?

He was citing his source - relax

I know it doesn't work this way but if it did, I'd rather keep Kozzy than get a King.  With JVR, Schache, Jefferson etc we have Key forward options going forward - and we might draft another talented one in this year's draft.  We don't have to have the best key forward - just options that can take contested marks and be a reliable set shot.  I find it amazing that many of the best key forwards that demand the big $$ are not overly reliable set shots!

Kozzy is one out of the box that is likely to go up another level this year with time midfield and forward.

Agree with this. Players with serious points of difference are worth their weight in gold.

Last week was the first week with how life could look potentially look without Kozzie and it didn't look great, given we lacked spark in the midfield and inside 50.

Kozzie only missed one game over the 2021-2022 seasons and it was the Hawks game last year where half the side had COVOD.

Even if we have a successful 2023, the reality is that both BBB and TMac have expiration dates.

You'd expect the club to plan long term, as we have done with the midfield.

Of the many things I don't like about this thread or your post, you have no idea whether or not we have any interest in King.

You have seen an article suggesting Geelong is interested and you have inferred from it that we therefore aren't interested.

That logic is flawed. It's also silly given it's [censored] March.

My comment here is not specifically on King. Is more about the plan for the future structure of our talls in the fwd 50.

My point stands, perhaps even gets stronger.

You've seen an article linking Geelong to King and you've inferred from it that we're not thinking about any forward at all.

Again, that is a very silly thing to be thinking in March.

Day from the Hawks is off home to SA at the end of the year

No idea of his reasons but it made me think the Hawks may lose a few talented youngsters.  A few commentators this week openly called out Mitchell's deep list cull as 'Tanking'.

Today's breed of youngsters aren't going to accept ruined careers like some from yesteryear, at a club that is a perennial loser for the first half of their career.  It is much easier for a player to move clubs now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks lose quite a bit of young talent for that reason.

It would be hard to be a talented kid from Melbourne, drafted by the Hawks and then want out to another Melbourne team within a couple years to chase success.  It's never a great look - especially in the eyes of the supporters who hold long memories.  **cough  Howe cough**

At least if you're an interstate player, you can drop the 'go home' factor in to escape if you like giving supporters a little understanding.

The one thing the Hawks will be able to offer is some serious $$ to any kids with talents.  I don't see how they can even be meeting the minimum salary cap at present with the current shambolic list of players.  They'll soon be able to front load a few for long term contracts but god knows who that would be.

Sounds like us a few years back when we forced to pay 95% of the cap to a VFL quality list.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
