Two hours ago in today’s training thread I read Kozzie was in Tim Lamb’s office, I log back in now to see this thread bumped after 3 weeks and I honestly thought he signed. I got very excited. 

I don’t understand what Kozzy is weighing up. His uncle, whom some suggested he wanted to live close to, is telling him to sign on with us. The article states he has no close family in either Adelaide or Perth. Neither Adelaide team had a first round pick. I’m confused. 

Lets not discount how involved his manager will be in this. Managers have to play a little hard to get to try and get the best for their client.

He has family on Adelaide. I'm not sure who or how close he is to them, but it's been mentioned in other places a few times. Wouldn't think anything of the fact that the article omits it. 

I can only assume either

1) Kozs manager is telling him to hold out, have a career year as a mid-fwd and get an extra $100-200k p.a.; or

2) He (as reported) isn't in love with Melbourne (the town) and just doesn't see himself settling here. Byron aside. Driving to Casey every day would do that I think. But some people, particularly those from remote locations, just never take to the bigger city. Koz might be one of them and that might just be our lot. 

He'll be well paid wherever, he's got family all over, and it's not his concern what PA or Adelaide have to offer. That's for the club to worry about and frankly, they'll take what they can get like they did with Freo last year. 

I’m just hoping his family truly have his best interests and urge him to stay. Byron obviously thinks he will be best off in Melbourne. 
Just needs to chat to his ex housemate to know that the grass isn’t always greener. No WA or SA club is closer to a flag than we are. So if money isn’t the issue, and family is not going to be close by no matter where you live, then success has to be the deciding factor. 
 

Also I wonder how his girlfriend fits into all this. She’s a Melbourne girl I assume. 

He's a good fella Byron, had a brief chat with him a couple of years ago in Adelaide. 

Had nothing but good things to say about the club, wished him and his nephew all the best.

p.s; was wearing a Melbourne scarf that night and we were playing the Powa.

He'd be silly to leave a Club and playing group that hasn't even hit it's peak yet.

The $$$ will be there for him and his Misses.

I don’t get the city life thing one bit. It’s not like Perth or Adelaide are country towns. They are still big and have their own football crazy media.

I have often wondered how much the lockdowns in Melbourne affected some of the younger players. 

Kozzy, Riv and LJ all came over just before we went into endless lockdown, and never really got to see what Melbourne was like pre-pandemic.  At that age it is peak social life, but they missed it all.

There's a lot to "unpack" in that article.

MFCSS suggests it's the club trying to soften the rage of supporters if he goes by demonstrating they did everything to keep him.

I think he'll stay... Reasons.. He would not say no to going but he will realise that none of the interstate teams offer the upside of MFC over the next three years

Think that's a very interesting point and potentially underappreciated in and amongst all of this. Certainly wouldn't have helped. 

The other thing is it probably really illustrated that it's just a job - any team can travel any place and footy is footy. Bit of perspective they perhaps otherwise wouldn't have gained

You're a goodun @biggestred. Love your work.

Bringing in uncle Byron feels a bit desperate … but maybe it’s what he needs to hear. A footy career is short… playing for a club that will likely win another 1-2 premierships in his career vs 4 teams in WA /SA that will be lucky to be playing finals let alone be too 4.

The only club that he could possibly goto is WC who have yet to hit rock bottom.

Id hate to lose him but life after Kozzy is possible - upside is we’ll take 3 R1 picks to the draft this year.

Let's hope it doesn't come to this.

If it does come to pass though and we did get so many 1st rounders then we would need to ensure we nab Harley Reid as fair compensation.
