ND4 still on but the Reid deal is dead now.

All good. Chucking a bonafide young talent into this team will be fantastic.

They may dangle ND4 to get a star KPF and I would encourage that but it would have to be a game changer. McKay after a medical on his shoulders, Naughton after a medical on his knees, but I am naming those two without knowing what talent is there in U/18s.

true. but WC could have split pick 1 and got a couple of picks.

do you think they'll split pick 2 or take curtin with it?

The reason for splitting picks was probably only for Reid.

They want Curtin and will take him at 2, as what could they split 2 for and still get him.

First week of the year that the deathriders can celebrate knowing Pick 6 to 9 are off the table finally. Pick 4 or 5 Locked in! Shame it had to be Port doing the winning though

All depends on the draft intel clubs have.

We could send 4 and 15 to them for 2 and jump the Hawks to get Duursma.

1. North - Reid

2. Melb - Duursma

3. Hawks - Watson

4. WC - Curtin

Hawks were supposedly fans of Watson before crushing on Duursma recently.

Reid would definitely choose us before North if it was up to him to decide his destination.

Even Hawthorn looks more promising in terms of list development.

But that's not how the system works and North would be crazy not to take him as the number one pick.

LDU, Simpkin, Wardlaw, Sheezel, Thomas, Reid, George, Larkey and more to come, with Clarkson, they won’t be cellar dwellers much longer.

Depends how much we want Duursma and if Curtin can convince Hawks he will go home in 2 years.

Have loved the deathride but I'm glad it ends next week.

I've really enjoyed having a team to barrack against this year. Meant I had 2 games of genuine interest each week.

I would love if we trade in a future first again this year. Perhaps some deal with Essendon. How much fun would it be cheering on the bombers to finish in the bottom 4?

Oh I've enjoyed it very much. I'm just tired of Freo.

Bring on a new team as you said, Essendon will do. We can make fun of Dodoro every week!

Well - it’s now 4 or 5 depending on whether the Hawks beat Freo and the Suns overcome North.

Both games are on in the early afternoon of next Saturday which automatically becomes the most intriguing part of the season’s final round.

If we can’t get Reid, then wouldn’t bother trading up for pick 2. None of the other top picks seem like they could be that absolute game breaker mid forward type. Duursma perhaps, but less likely as he was disappointing in the midfield this year and is less competitive inside. We’d be better off taking multiple first rounders to draft or trading them.

A real shame, as a Reid/Petracca combo was a tantalizing fantasy!

good thing is the sun's and flogmantle's games are both being played at same time and early.

so, by 4:30pm on saturday we will know if we've got pick 4 or 5

may the footy gods shine on us.

Surely North aren't going to hand back pick 1 to West Coast by winning an absolutely meaningless game against the Suns in Hobart, where most of their membership base won't even be at the game to enjoy the win.

You'd imagine Gold Coast will leapfrog Freo on the ladder and we'll get pick 4 (before it balloons out with all the compromises)

With the Demons getting either draft pick 4 or 5 (thanks Freo!) I would be happy to recruit one of the nine following talented young players in this year's 2023 AFL National Draft.

1) Nate Caddy
Northern Knights/Vic Metro
FWD/MID, 192cm, 91kg

2) Zane Duursma
Gippsland Power/Vic Country
FWD/MID, 189cm, 79kg

3) Nick Watson
Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro
FWD, 170cm, 66kg

4) Connor O'Sullivan
Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country
DEF/FWD, 198cm, 92kg

5) Darcy Wilson
Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country
MID, 185cm, 73kg

6) Ollie Murphy
Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro
DEF, 200cm, 85kg

7) George Stevens
GWV Rebels/Vic Country
MID/DEF, 189cm, 84kg

8) Colby McKercher
Tasmania Devils/Allies
MID, 181cm, 73kg

9) Ryley Sanders
Sandringham Dragons/Allies (originally from Tasmania)
MID, 186cm, 85kg

This is is no particular order though as I have faith in Jason Taylor and the MFC recruiting team. 🙏

Agreed.

The Suns pick is going to be hotly contested but I'd be looking at any other options to upgrade our picks as I can’t see us taking many picks at the draft.

I hope we draft The Wizard, him and Kozzie in the same forward line would be a problem.

The unexpected nose dive by the dogs might move them into pole position for the suns pick. I expect them to get beat by the Cats this weekend and probably end up with pick 8 and Brisbanes first round pick. They have a father/son around pick 10.

I don't follow junior footy Supreme D so can you tell me how good/promising the tall kid , Ollie Murphy, is?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
