Dees considering big trade plays

I'm loving the aggressive trading strategy. Knock the Dons and Dodoro off kilter. Personally, I'd rather hold our picks, particularly Freo's pick (they'll go backwards this year) but JT is a genius and has my total faith.

👏

It is like picking the scab off an old sore.

But 10 years later!...Weird.

Agree, but someone started it so it just went from there!

I still think that this is poor planning get rid of 3 first round picks for 4 and 22 since every body said next years crop is better than this year.

In 12 months players like Melksham and Hibberd will be past their use by date so we will have to fill 2 holes, Chandler will have to step up and Bailey Laurie will have to show signs that he is a good first round pick to retain their place in the squad.

Just goes to show that Pick 13 and F1 for LJ was unders because we cant even get into the top 5 with two first rounders. I would hate to give up 3 first rounders for pick 4 and 22 unless Pick 4 snared us a KPP.

Instead i would take what ever is available this year and in 2023, id package up our 2xF1 and our 2024 F1 to trade into top 2 of the super draft.

List management is sorted in advance not the year of a players departure. They will be planning for what they do if Kossie commits or not, like they would have for Dogga. Same goes with our entire list and getting 2023 out of both Pig and Melk May be something they didn’t expect

Cal mentioned that GWS pick 15 is gettable and that we would be keen if we can’t get a deal done with the bombers. I think I would prefer that. Gives us a staring hand this year and next.
Wonder how confident the club is on Kossie staying beyond next season. If they think he’s off I wonder will that play a part in who we select. Might make Brayden George more appealing.

13 and 15 would be a good outcome if we cant get in the top 6/7.

George is more a Petracca style forward. If we wanted a small forward type we could look at Konstanty or Charlie Clarke in the later stages of the first round with Darcy Jones probably in that range as well. Clarke and Jones have also rolled through the midfield a bit. I would be happy with any of them. Noah Long is someone else that might appeal later in the draft as well.

If Kozzie goes next year then at this stage Nick Watson would be the ideal replacement with Jack Delean also showing talent in his bottom age year. Obviously a lot can change in a year.

Yes agree. Tough to get the bombers pick 4 which is a premium potential A grader to give up as a selection.  GWS might be good to do a pickup swap for a future 2023 (Freo) 1st rounder.

At first reading three first round picks makes one go WOW!

But 2023 has a few early Academy and potentially F/S players.  So a 2023 F1 in the 14 to 18 range will likely become late teen/early 20 picks.

Not really that exciting.  I doubt Ess will do it.

Some would look and say its 13 this year and two likely later first rounders next year. However with your own future first its a lot of 2023 bargaining power to either use to move up next year, use in trade or just have 3 shots at the top 18 in an alleged super draft,

Maybe.

If 2023 is such a great draft how many clubs wit a top 5 or top 10 pick will take 3 picks in the teens, which will slide.  Trading up the order into the elite part of the draft is simple in theory but difficult in practice as we are finding out.

Elite players can win flags.

If we can't jump up into the top 6 with 3 first rounders this year how would we be able to move to the top 2 in a better draft with the same offer of 3 first rounders

If I spent some time, which I'm not going to, Im pretty sure I could find an article on next year's 'super draft', every year for the last 10 years. Yes, in hindsight there may have been a couple of drafts that produced more elite players than others but to me the term gets used every year. I say get the best picks we can this year. Next year is just that, a whole year away. Draft Players can develope and fall, lists change. Take the best now and worry about next year next year. We always manage to get back in first round no matter what we trade.

What I glean from all the trenners and Toumpas talk and memories is that hope and investment in a high pick can go sour pretty quickly with injury. Both looked excellent propositions and it seemed like their bodies (and subsequent recovery which the club couldn’t help them achieve) that let them down.

On topic, very happy the club is floating prospective offers into the ether to see what’s possible and while the demons have so much in hand right now, why not test all waters available. Can’t wait to see tonight what they’ve managed to orchestrate after creating enough noise to shake out some deals. If after everything’s talked out we take our picks I’ll be content that the recruiting team assessed options and saw this best.

personally I lean towards the hope of parting with no more than one future pick (ours not freos, I want to death ride them just for the fun) for either gws or Sydney’s first and steal a gun.
George, Barnett, Cowan. A sliding busslinger would be great for the future too, although can’t see teams trading out of that.

You have missed the most likely at 13 (14) in Jefferson if available.

Interesting that one recruiter on AFL said last year, the consensus was the 2022 draft would be filled with great tall prospects. It hasn't panned out that way at all.

Forecasting how good a draft class will be 12 months out is fraught with danger.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
