Roger Mellie is inspired by 'Roger Mellie the Man on the Telly' a character from Viz magazine. 30 years ago I thought it (the magazine more so than the RM character) was pretty funny, not so much now. I probably should change my name, but I wouldn't want other posters to lose sleep over where Roger went.

I used to subscribe to Viz. I used to find it really funny, but it is kinda the same joke/s.

Perhaps change to one of the other Viz characters? Sid the Sexist, Mr Logic or Finbarr Saunders?

And two worthy players at that. I was at Dean’s final match (Round 23 vs. Syd) and although we were there to cheer on the Saints, for us it was pretty much the Dean show. I reckon we gave him more love than the Saints supporters did. 😂

So to change your username you go into your profile and next to your avi is a little symbol like this ⚙️. You click on that and… change away!

It’s a little hard to spot so here’s a pic of it…

BUT…

Choose wisely since you have to wait a month before you can change it again. It’s more important than naming your kid. Coz with your kid you can change it the next day if you want, or anytime. (Looking at you, Gryan Miers’ parents).

Thanks for the answer. I thought you had to have a certain number of posts or something.

You need to have minimum 100 posts. You’ve got plenty. 🙂

Most of them wouldn't get through the censor - Terry and Cockney etc.

Maybe Biffa Bacon could be next on the menu? Probably best left in the 80's.

PS. Billy the Fish sucked

The late and great Peter Cook

My avatar of course is the great Sunline.

Sat behind her jockey Greg Childs, at the Cox Plate and told him and he was chuffed she was remembered.

Was really annoyed at the end of 2002 that we let a genuinely good player in Stephen Powell go to St Kilda due to a contract dispute. IIRC he was picked up in the pre season draft so we didn’t even get any compo for him. Powell then became a very good player for St Kilda including playing in all their finals from 04-06.

He only played 2 seasons for us (2000 and 2002) but he was key cog in our midfield as a goal kicking mid. Also kicked 10 goals in the 2000 finals series.

Yes not one of our better efforts. Then again until the last 5-6 years we have been less than wonderful more often that not.

Now that Dean and Jack no longer play AfL it might be time to change my username. What are the guidelines for doing so.

Not a guideline, but a suggestion you may well have now worked out for yourself. Don't choose a name that's linked to a current player.

I'm still quite surprised that DeeSpencer hasn't changed his name given he was quick to do so after his previous nom de plumes were made redundant by the departures of Matthew Bate and Alexis Georgiou. Perhaps I should give him the benefit of the doubt and accept that DeeSpencer was a name derived from Stuart, not Jake.

True LDvC although mine has proven remarkably durable after a couple of tricky seasons involving LJ and Jeremy Howe

Will always remember the young cocky Luke Hodge getting in his face in his 1st or 2nd year.
Powell gave him a biatch slap Nate Diaz would've been proud of.
He was a tough uncompromising footballer not about to take rubbish from a snotbag kid.

Pretty sure Powell got a week or 2 for it but I'm sure Hodge learnt his lesson.
You don't fork with Stephen Powell.

Must have been one hell of a horse to win carrying both Childs and yourself!!

Or, perhaps, Frank Spencer?

Tracy, don't forget your Spencer!

Getting back to the dominant storyline in this thread, I recall those dark days of the 1970s when watching Melbourne play on a Saturday afternoon was a pretty dismal experience. On the other hand, music of that time was a great joy. I've recently revisited what was probably called prog-rock in those days listening to a lot of Jethro Tull, Rick Wakeman, Mike Oldfield, EL&P (Emerson, Lake and Palmer), and the Alan Parsons Project. I'd forgotten how enjoyable their music was.

For the uninitiated, I recommend Bouree, Locomotive Breath and Aqualung from Jethro Tull, the Six Wives of Henry VIII by Rick Wakeman, Fanfare for the Common Man from EL&P, and, of course, the timeless Tubular Bells from Mike Oldfield.

Yes, but getting back to the original storyline in this thread, La Dee-vina Comedia, I always say your name (in my head) with a thick Italian accent. Think, Mario Bros. But that’s probs only coz I’m an uncultured ditz. 😆

My preference would be that my name is pronounced with true Italian purity, given it is claimed that proper Italian is based on the work of my author, Dante Alighieri. I think of him as the Christian Petracca of 14th century Italian poetry.

Or not.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
