Couldn't be further from the truth. Small forwards like Kozzie impact results more than a ruckman like Jackson. It would be a disaster to lose a small forward who has kicked 40 goals in both of his full seasons.

We have 2 X Factor players in our forward line in Kozzie and Fritsch. If anything, we need a couple more who can take advantage of our midfield dominance.

Are you expecting Spargo to take up the slack?

He is a great tackler but it has come back a fair bit in comparison to last year. It’s really a team issue more so than just Kozzy but he has a a lot to do with it.

For a small forward who is meant to impact both offensively and defensively this is quite alarming and it’s hard to say whether it’s mindset, positioning, effort or something else.

Still, I don’t want to lose him - for the record. But we would be well compensated if he does chose to go.

It doesn't really matter unless you demand he honours the contract which is not a great way to manage a cohesive list

Lobb stayed last year, has a great year. Bobby Hill stayed, had a Bobby hill year before unfortunate illness. Dunkley stayed multiple years.

My guess is Pickett won’t even try to leave because he knows what the answer will be. And port won’t even try to get him because they know what it will be too - for one they’d have to pay double what the draft capital price could be in a years time. They’ll all look foolish.

This is really a story just for clicks.

Could we get Liam Henry from the Dockers in the Jackson trade? I remember us being into him in his draft year but Freo traded up and swooped in early ? Just hypothetically speaking if Picket was to leave anyway, im sure this is nonsense though

We had been looking for a small forward for years. Our VFL team is full of "nearly theres".

Kozzie is a potential match winner plus he is one of our few "crowd exciters"

It’s a meat market and is getting worse each year.

Unfortunately I agree and money talks too. The players will get more at other clubs and that seems to be part of the reason for leaving.

It’s really not that hard. You simply stop players meeting with clubs or clubs talking about other players.

Of course they will be sniffing around with agents but the whole process is delayed if they can’t get busted meeting with or discussing rivals.

Sounds great in theory, but there are so many ways to work around it. How do you stop a Zoom meeting?

Player managers have clients amongst multiple clubs. So whilst re-negotiating a contract with player x, they could be discussing a move to that club for player y.

It's been said many times that a lot of the player movements are locked in well before the season ends. Then it comes down to negotiating a trade.

Kozzy has had a great year and has developed nicely. still has flaws in his game and lacks defensive presence. Would hate to lose him as we would lose a major scoring avenue but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Would demand a top 5 pick in return.

Jees mate you never give up.

He has never lacked defensive pressure.

Your words are repetitive and offending to the extent that, there could be a figure.

I'm not happy with you and that type of "We'll consider anything for a price".

Agree but also the clubs have to adopt a hard edged approach to trading out players or encouraging players to talk to other clubs. Think no further than TMac and ANB.

All of the three you mentioned have either already requested a trade or are about to request one. If you're only concerned about next season than don't, there's no way we trade him. Just pray he doesn't stall negotiations and create a distraction for the team throughout 2023

Henry was a Freo academy player, who we could get on the cheap

Agree. Like Roos said when he was our coach (something like) if we have a player who has one yr left on his contract and doesn’t want to sign when there is talk of other clubs circling then we should try and trade them.

We need to be more ruthless in this area while still not going over the top and destroying our culture.

I’m hearing multiple reports that Melbourne is chasing Zac Butters. Doing everything they can to get him next year. Melbourne boy who wants to come home. Doesn’t love Adelaide - because, well, it’s Adelaide.

Kozzi would be top 5 of players I would hate to lose.
Imagine our small fwd stocks without him

It’s funny you know.

Its easy to accept the landscape or reality of AFL trades. We supporters should understand this with a fully rational mind. Yet we have no problem throwing ourselves enthusiastically into discussions about trading in new players in order to improve the team. And we  have to acknowledge that players decide to stay or go for reasons of self interest. And clubs are ruthless in culling players.

.As a club supporter we like stability and loyalty when the club is going well. We want our best players to remain loyal to the club yet are happy to wave goodbye to the spuds. We are emotional and feel betrayed if a good player or one with potential wants to leave. We feel that a player should remain loyal despite the fact that the world and individuals no longer value loyalty.

Crazy hey.

Losing Kosi would be an absolute disaster. Not just because he’s such a rare talent, but he’s also remarkably marketable and a fan favourite.
Gotta put a big deal in front of him and get it sorted asap. No issues giving him 5 years. He’s only 21.

Who on earth  is Michaelangelo Leonardo Roccaceli anyway? One of the leftover ninja turtles? For all we know he’s about as well connected to the trade market as Melksham’s baby.

Good grief…

Rucci has been the preeminent afl journo in SA for about 40 years; the equivalent of Caro, if you like - similarly he’s quasi-retired now

Also effectively the pear historian these days

You're going by totals when there's a different amount of games though.

Average tackles per game he's down by 0.8 this year compared to 2021. Not exactly what I would call " a fair bit" and far from "alarming".

He's our number 1 player for average tackles inside 50 and our second for average goals.

Ridiculous to imply he doesn't impact "both offensively and defensively".

Membership will drop if we lose both of our best youngsters in Jacko and Kozzie, it’ll be a disaster for the club.

Lacks defensive presence???
Can’t see many here agreeing with that statement, might be good ammunition for joeboy in the future though.

40 and 41 goals for a small forward is elite stuff two years running. His defensive presence is a bonus and I think he does that well.
