You could argue that we're not really off track since we finished second after the H & A season but in the spirit of seeking perfection and the fact that there's been an announcement of one major player moving on, we're going for the back on track tack.

Agreed, we need to bolster our ruck stocks now that Majak's moving on ... oh wait.

Nice to be here in September and not May. :mahoney2:

Action Jackson has left the building. Don't want to say it but I was right. Melbourne stuffed up picking him at 3.

Could not agree less. He turned the 2021 GF on its head in that third quarter and we will be compensated for the trade. In no way a stuff up.

If only we stuffed up like that all the time, we would have a few more flags! 😉

How have we stuffed up?

We might actually end up with more.    If we end up dealing with W.C it will be pick 2, 20 and maybe something else.

For a pick 3 i would do the trade again and again.

I can't be mad with LJ, i witnessed 15 minutes of footballing brilliance half way through the 3rd quarter of a GF.

How? We are literally getting an upgrade in picks for him

Jackson wants to go, it looked like his game changed for the worse mid season when he decided to.

He will be good for who ever gets him, so long as he is motivated.

For us, we have talls, JVR, Turner, Tmac, Weids as back-up ruck and Tomlinson as general back-up.

What we need is a big bodied, hit the packs hard forward.

Saw today there is rumour of Kysiah looking to go back to SA.

There goes some "X factor" (if) , difficult to replace. Though at his stage of development, he found it hard to stay in the game for the 4 quarters. (Not the only player at our club with that problem.)

We have a few trying to be small forwards, but none are quite right.

I'd be looking for a tall Langdon clone, someone who can out-mark his opponent, run two ways, is clean with the ball and makes good decisions.

We need a back-up number one ruck if Max has some time off.

Draft a 105+ kg forward.

A 190+ cm mid/winger.

A 200+ cm ruck

A small who likes a goal and has the "X" factor.

Out; M. Brown, Laurie, Rosman, Baker

Hopefully Howes can fill that wing need at 190

Howes is every bit that player tbh.  He looks very special in the way he reads the game. Just has a knack of popping up in the right spot.  Good over head, good kick - just need to work on the tank.

And some outside runners with foot speed and kicking ability as well please.

It will be if all they cough up is pick 14 and Bailey Banfield as a sweetener.

Players come and go. The important thing is we have a proven recruitment team to spot the talent and replenish the list. I'd be very confident JT will pick up a real player with one of the picks we get in the Jackson trade

Trading & Drafting Board, anybody?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
