I would agree with you if our example of deadly execution was when we were usually more fatigued in the second half; but this killer clinic was all done in 45 mins. In terms of factors that led to last night, the impact of freshness due to the completion of training intensity loading some weeks back is low. The greater factor was how bad the Lions defended and allowed players who hadn’t had time and space (or didn’t think they had time and space) to slow down and wait for a better option, and for our forwards to leverage that patience and lead to created space. My hope is that they now have a taste for it and it was a ‘tune up’ for QF1 against Sydney. 4 Quote
doc roet 1,302 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Well folks, I've just come out of surgery or so it seems, to have the middle lobe of my right lung removed because of a growth in the collapsed lung and my diaphragm piltrated (stiched down). Don't want to bore you all with the ****ty stuff, but I must say timing of this operation was of not my doing. To my elation I was to be at the hospital at 6.30 am Friday to be prepped for a morning procedure that would likely last 4 hrs. So I'm thinking start at 9 finish at 1 gimee time to come around to watch the game. Didnt allow for the effects of the ongoing drip fed ketamine and oxycodone . So to say it appeared as a dream is an understatement. In and out of consciousness but managed to see the whole game (I think) unless I have died and gone to heaven. 21 22 3 Quote

Disappointed in the commentators, they kept stating that Melbourne was essentially beating up the poor brisbane players and zorko was being harassed constantly. I dont know how many times I saw Zorko tackled put the tackler into a headlock and would not let him go, or punch and push players and the commentators blame the melbourne players. Reminded me of when you grab someone’s arm and hit them with it and say stop hitting yourself Quote
rufus 1,162 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 What a magnificent performance. High pressure applied around the ball. Something we have barely done all year. Result is that we can move the ball forward in a way that our forwards like Ben Brown look good and we are much more able to score. General hardness at the ball, both air and ground, was where we want it to be as a club week in week out (and it hasn't been there consistently this season). Also loved the odd kick out going down the guts, and some f50 entries coming in lower to lead ups. If we play with that level of intent and hardness and we don't win it all this year, then so be it. We will have made another team earn it big time, and it will be something to be proud of for us. 5 Quote

I disagree with all three paragraphs above, but that's OK, we land in the same spot anyway. 2 1 Quote

Hatchman 539 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Part of me wonders if a lot of the games we were playing in the second half of the season were using tactics that were deliberately designed to get other teams to change their analysis of the way we play and spend energy adjusting for that so that we will change tactics in the finals series and catch them off guard. We played differently last night, and I do concede part of that is due to the fact the Brisbane were so bad. But it still seemed different. I am a lot more confident in our chances of getting to the GF. Last night a lot of things just seemed to "click" 7 Quote

Left side, point if the square for 21 games, then last night hitting up harmes, short kicks to the right and that absolute bullet to Langdon on the wing. 4 Quote
