The points you've made are the crux of the matter. Both Hunter and Grundy are best 22, but their impact is dependant on our game plan. Neither player would be suited to "chaos ball".

As @rpfc noted, Hunter on the wing should allow JJ more time in the middle. Trac, Clarry and Viney need their workloads managed, because the fact that we were constantly overrun in games, is as much to do with the midfield as anywhere else.

Let's hope their acquisitions suggests are slight shift in our game plan.

I reckon we would have shifted our game plan anyway.  Our ball movement into the forward line is/was not up to par ... especially for a team with as many good players that we have on our list

It did work in 2021 but not in 2022.  So you change things up and make adjustments

As noted, we need to start running out games again so our fitness and run in the legs needs to be addressed

I loved it when we took a punt on Bennel. Think it says a lot about our club that we back ourselves in to support players with off field issues and we have an even more mature and solid culture now than then. Also, wasn't Hunter VC at Dogs? Must have some leadership qualities

Forgot to mention pressure acts across the ground and defensive pressure in our forward line ... in 2021 we seemed to have at least 3 lines of defence and often in line like the back 4 we see in soccer

Not so in 2022 and I believe I'm right in saying that we went from 1st to 17th in that area.  That's a stat that jumps out at you

But we've acquired Hunter as an attacking midfielder (with good disposal skills) so he's more so been brought in to address our F50 entry issues (in my view)

Useless and random fact here.

Tom Sparrow is currently dating Rod Owen's daughter Layla Owen.

Lets hope they move things along. 2040’ish draft here we come.

dogs seem to have a significant cultural issue and have had it since their miracle 2016 premiership

i'm backing in hunter to be a valuable member of our best side

Sorry Demon Disciple but we are going to have to agree to disagree on that one. I had a perfect view of that incident that you refer to from my couch in lockdown Melbourne with my beer goggles on. Correct call, play on. The beer goggles don’t lie.

Ha ha I still cringe a little bit when I see Gus cannon into Schache slightly late and then lay on the ground as if wounded and BT saying he didn’t get away with standing under the ball.lol.!!!

Just read the article, she's seen more than most for her age.

Bloke was a Vice Captain at the Dogs before he ran into his personal issues. Whatever has led to him falling out with the dogs surely can be rectified. You don't become a VC in a club that has just won a flag if you're a liability.

The doggies have a fairly small backline which didn't help hunter on a wing as far as defensive support went.    We've a much taller backline so can get away with a smaller wing

I think I'm more excited about picking up Hunter than Grundy... if he plays at his best on a wing we improve our midfield depth and free up JJ

Yes, JJ is a talent despite the negatives that have been previously mentioned. He - as a junior newbie - is coming along very nicely, thank you, orienting and selectively assessing what is happening on the field that can then lead him into an action; soon, these processes will be familiar to him and his responses can be expected to occur more quickly, more consistently and more effectively in the (several) roles and the couple of field positions that he is currently attempting to navigate. I reckon he is doing these team duties well, given such circumstances. JJ is going to be a reliably worthy team member.

JJ did well this year, given wing is probably not his best position. He was filling a need for the team - rather than playing a more inside type role which is his strength.

Hopefully Hunter makes the wing his own, then the competition for spots on the flanks & mid rotations gets even more fierce. Be tough to fit all of Harmes, Sparrow, JJ and maybe even Chandler in the one team - who wants it more!

Hunter’s move had been kept under wraps despite some interest between the two clubs to get the deal done over recent weeks.

Melbourne only finished doing its due diligence on Hunter in recent days.

“There were some conversations around Lachie for a time and if there was another opportunity elsewhere a fresh start would probably be best for him so we were obviously happy to accommodate that,” Western Bulldogs list manager Sam Power said.

Cool that he has his own signature tune, though Aldous got the lyrics wrong a bit.

'He's a Hunter, and a good man, be brave when he brings nothing home', should have been:

"He's a Hunter, and a good man, be brave when he brings no goals at home'

Iloved it also, but i could tell by his body language he was not invested in our club and ended up pissing in our faces. You cant help someone unless they want to help themselves.Hope Hunter is not too complex

Since the club hasn't posted this:  Highlights why and when and strategic oversight.

Does Tim Lamb say they don’t discuss contract lengths in this interview? Wonder why?

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
