Petracca picks and chooses when he wants to show up, 2nd worse game I've seen him play behind the Freo loss. Gawn terrible, ANB an absolute momentum killer, Koz anonymous, the entire back seven were terrible tonight. Definitely not going back to back this year.

You were watching the wrong game.

That was the most painful loss I can remember in a long time.

+93 disposals.

+22 CPs.

+20 clearances.

+24 inside 50s.

+1 extra day break on our opponent, who was coming off back-to-back six day breaks.

That should be a 5-goal win, not a loss.

But we bomb it long and play a total momentum killer who is never dropped.

Hope your smiling now Salem after an easy goal missed.

Cant wait for the we will smash Carlton predictions.

We have won one game in Melbourne in last 10.

Brayshaw 74% TOG

Jackson 69% & Brown 76% when we have one key fwd??

So many passages where we played without dare. Therein lies the difference. The number of times they rope-a-doped and streamed out from the back was embarrassing.

All the problems we've had throughout the last however many years are still there.

In a 7 point game, all the goals they were gifted by the umps was the difference.

Well,  being at the game.   It was pretty enjoyable game tbh. Clearly 2 of the best 4 teams

They definitely got all the 50/50 calls in the last but it's the FORWARD LINE folks.

Is Joel Smith the saviour?

No should have played JVR tonight & dropped the momentum killer in ANB.

Once it got to the half way point of the last quarter it was so predictable. We fold so easily and react rather than push the point

Goodwin was outcoached tonight. At the ground it was clear as day in how Pies setup for the sling shot.

Goodwin did nothing to counter it. The forward pressure was way off as the just waltz it out and the game looked exactly like it did against the Dogs.

This time we don’t have loading to blame.

People keep saying clubs are playing out of their skin and umpires and blah blah blah

nope. Collingwood have won 11 straight. 11. You don’t play out of your skin 11 games in a row. They’re they real deal. Manic pressure , elite kicking and super efficiency. Wish it was us!!!

our fwd line is a shambles and I don’t even know where to start with some decision making

jesus wept

what a farce

But of course it’s just a game .we don’t have bombs raining down on our heads and stuff so yeah. Perspective

ps I hate losing to Collingwood can we please stop that Simon

One team kicked straight from fewer opportunities, the other had more shots at goal and kicked erratically. In a close game, that always makes the difference. Misses by Gawn and Petracca were particularly costly, as was Petty's idiotic push which led to the clinching goal. And the final-quarter fadeout raises yet again the question as to whether the players are as fit as when Burgess was in charge of that department. I suspect not.

We had no structures. We were just bombing it in whereas they had structures in place. There goals came in front of goal.

We went wide.

Pathetic and shameful performance.

We've learnt absolutely nothing this year. Complete flat track bully until too teams up their pressure and we crumble like butter.

Defence? What the actual [censored] was that crap?

Defence what game were you watching, we kicked 3 goal to 7 what the hell do you expect, had months to change it up but no, kick to pockets ignore guys running free on the inside, kick to packs after packs.

I wonder if it is the right decision to take Gus out of the backline. Worst game I have seen Petty play and Hibberd was atrocious. Pickett was very selfish and undisciplined. They should have found an excuse to use Harmes - all the other teams use their sub so I don’t understand why we don’t. We seem incapable of playing 4 quarters and constantly give up good leads. Alarm bells are ringing.

Petty, Hibberd, Kozzie, RiversSpargo, Hunt  nowhere near it tonight.

The thing that changed the game though was Gawn's goalkicking. Arrogant!

Don't blame the umpires.  We didn't take our chances and they did and we were outplayed.

Losing to this mob is always the bitterest pill to swallow.  Goodnight all.

Let us not forget… their last 2 goals came from dubious 50:50 frees

Max missed one in front and there was a another

let’s no blame the umps this is on the players and coaching staff

A complete reverse of last weeks superb defensive performance against the Dockers and a reversion to the dumb, fast shootout football that saw us last in near identical circumstances to the Bulldogs a fortnight ago.

Hibbo and ANB both had absolute mares tonight and we're still seriously struggling with our conversion rate inside 50. We scored from 24 of our 65 inside 50's while Collingwood took their chances and finished with a conversion rate above 50% (21 scores from 41 entries).

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
