Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

And history is littered with coaches that had a great Powerpoint presentation that swayed the selection committee. One name come to mind Mark Neeld. I remember another occasion an applicant missed out when his computer stalled and he couldn't deliver his Powerpoint presentation. I think the bells and whistles and a good audiovisual don't make you a great coach.

I was gonna say the same thing!

Yze was in front right until the last minute when Kingsley walked in and nailed the handshake with a nice, firm grip. On lookers said they had never seen a final interview day handshake like it but that was not all! His laptop started up in 15 seconds, an AFL record. This all paved the way for his super smooth PowerPoint presentation which in addition to the new clicker he bought specially, referenced the words: 'process, system, outcomes, growth, and metrics' a million times and then showed a diagram of the best way to make it from the cafeteria to the training ground for training.

Needless to say after that, it was a done deal.

For what it's worth I think Lyon will coach EFC...

If they get all the housecleaning done in the next few weeks then there could be a good opportunity there.

Part of the housekeeping would be to move Sheedy off the board, but maybe that is too big an ask.

Adem should have a good look if the opportunity presented for him.

...as much as I would hate to see him coach them.

They cannot take a first time Coach

It won’t happen, unless the job gets turned down by everyone!!

They can do what they want...

Personally I think a first time coach with experience is what they need. Adem fits the bill.

...but, they must get the off field stuff together.

They have started the purge, will they have the fortitude to go all the way.

From the outside looking in there are 2 political players that need moving on.

Barham is well regarded & might just pull things together.

Remember recent history where both Collingwood & Carlton seemed in disarray prior to the start of this season.

If you look at the premierships of the last 15 years or so the vast majority are 'first time coaches'.

It's more about the development and experience before taking the top job, Yze has that in spades now.

it has nothing to do with Adem’s situation. They have killed off too many first up Coaches since the Drugs were rife

A first up Coach with experience is not experienced enough to Coach Essendrug

It's also about supporting the first time coach, and allowing them to grow into the role. Thompson, Clarkson, Hardwick and Goodwin weren't overnight sensations.

It would be hard for the remaining Essendon board members to go with a first time coach because they pulled the rug under Rutten. The board members and CEO who supported Rutten have resigned.

Yep absolutely, and all those coaches (Scott would be an exclusion given his first year) had their times when their jobs were in jeopardy somewhat.

Maybe. I don't think that just because Rutten didn't work that every other 'first time coach' wouldn't work as well. For mine, more about getting one who has gone through all the training and processes, has experience and success, and then making sure they get the best they can to surround them with in terms of assistants, list management, footy boss etc etc.

Spot on. The lack of respect for Rutten by the players was appalling. The players will eat another first-time coach alive. Need an experienced coach who will bring the players into line. The players won’t respond to a first-time coach attempting to bring them into line.

I also feel a fair few of those Essendon players are bathwater drinkers. They need someone who will tell them to look in the mirror and pity the fool they see before them.

I really don't want Yze to coach Essendon:

1. He is probably going to be a very good senior coach. I don't want that for Essendon.

2. Essendon's culture will greatly damage his opportunity to succeed as a coach. I don't want that for Yze.

3. I do want Yze for Melbourne and I dream of a smooth future succession taking place at a time when we have several premiership stars in their veteran years to support the growth of a new generation under a new coach.

I reckon the lack of respect here for Goody is pretty poor.

Why do we ever need Yze to take over? Why couldn't Goody leave when he's grey and old, ala Ferguson at Man United?

I'd love Yze to stay at the MFC, but if he wants to become a senior coach, he needs to go elsewhere.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
