That's all well and good, but if you are fumbling, not winning the ball, and not a forward threat, then the coaching dept will make a call as to whether his defensive work outweighs his lack of offense.

I like ANB, but wouldn't mind if he spent a couple of weeks at Casey to get his mojo back.

ABN

Agree with the above.

Will also add he was run down from behind twice, when he shouldn’t have been :-  had plenty of time.

Bad omen today at our new abode, magpies great my wife on the veranda this morning!!

Well, to balance that, I felt a good omen when I clipped  Magpie from about 50 meters with a shot off a low skimming 4 iron.   It limped away into the bush and I didn't see where it went.

Watching Goodwin's press conference, he hesitated when discussing where Harmes will play. He might just not want to give up too much in a press conference, but my read on it is I think Harmes will play VFL this week.

A F - have we an alternative VFL team, as Casey has yet another bloody bye this week.

Agree.

So you'd agree that if picked this week (which hw 100% will be) the answer is, yes, his defensive work is his kpi, ie ot 'outweighs his lack of offence'?

By the by, on tbat point our defence drives our offence, ipso facto nibblers brilliant defensive work and incredible,  often unrewarded, gut running up and down the ground makes an important contribution to our offence.

For a season and a half, ANB has been able to fulfil his defensive role, but also be an important linkman and kick important goals.

In his first 12 games this season, he got 20 or more possessions 5 times. Since the bye, he's yet to get 20 possessions in 6 games, and is averaging 13 possessions per game. He's averaging 0.3 of a goal per game this year compared to 0.6 last year.

ANB is important to the side, but he's not in good form.

Wouldn’t get rid of ABN.

He’s needed for taxation purposes.

Most of my 4 irons also limp into the bushes and I can't see where they go, apart from obviously not straight.

Do you have any theories that might explain a post bye drop off by one of our aerobic beasts?

It's like they're preparing Melbourne supporters for his selection as a tall forward this week or next....

It has that feel. The other talls are injured, always injured, out of form/eeek, and a baby…

Joel is 1cm shorter than Mihocek and possibly as good a mark, but just can't stay on the park.

Its a worthy experiment and one that a few of us have been suggesting for some time now

He will take some time before he adjusts to a forward role so expectations should be modest in the short term - he will however provide a good physical contest both in the air and on the deck

I would expect we will see more of Joel in the F50 next season

So I'm not the only one who still has irons 3-4 in my bag. Nice

Definite lack of fitness, hunger and ruthlessness, that he will magically re-discover in the next 2 weeks.

Brown for Weideman is a lock for almost all of us.

Harmes also should play, it's just who goes out. Tricky, especially given Brayshaw looked so good in the middle last week and both Rivers and Hunt (especially early) were super.

Then there's the fact that we need a third tall up forward and as insurance - Melky has done a great job in the T.Mac role so far.

I also like the prospect of Joel Smith playing. But I reckon given the stakes, we should just make him the sub. That way he can come on if needed at either end. He's perfect for that role.

Lingers has given them some extra motivation with those comments. Not sure that was wise!

[censored] I hope we beat them tomorrow. I’ll be seriously flat if we lose to them yet again.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
