Of course it would be great to keep him, but he wants opportunity.   He is behind Kozzie and Spurge, and competing with Chandler.

Big question is who / what we can get for him from the Druggies.  Are they looking to offload anyone surplus, hopefully a tall?

We won’t get much for a kid with half a dozen games under his belt. 3rd round pick?

he is worth a lot more than that imo.

Agreed.  Unless Bedford is desperate to leave, I don't think a 3rd Rd draft pick is a good deal for the MFC to have put 3 or 4 years development into a player who is starting to show signs he both close to the mark AFL quality wise and offers a point of difference with his pace.

We'd only need one of Kossie or Spargo to get a long term injury and a guy like Bedford or Chandler is right in the mix.

Unless it's a pretty early round pick (which admittedly Essendon would have), I hardly see how 3rd Rd draft picks actually offer much of an incentive for an AFL club to trade a player when the players picked up at those picks are highly speculative and most often a step backwards from a mature player another club sees enough value in to trade into their list.

Has shown signs of brilliance in some of his games and hasn't had a real run at it given he's later in the pecking order behind Spargo & Kozzie.

Some of his ground ball gets under pressure are as clean as i've seen.  Same goes for the finish.  This bloke knows where the goals are and is pretty accurate on conversion.  Bit of a rarity nowadays.

A good back up for Kozzie in my view and an up and coming option if we need to go with three smalls depending on match ups.

BUGGER OFF BOMBERS...NO TRADE!!

yep but they were in for bobby hill last year (thats cooled right off) to play alongside tippa, now tippas gone and they didn't get hill they're definitely well short on small forwards

I like Toby, but he’s behind Koz and Spargo and they are both young.

i think he starts next year behind Laurie too who's definitely overdue a debut -was surprised melky got the recall instead of him on the weekend but he performed really well and deserves to hold his spot. Bedford is probably more in the kozzy goalkicking mould than the ANB/Spargo up the ground and 15-20 touches mould that laurie is

Dees need to be very strong in their messaging.
Hands off.

Well yes and no..

Bedford is uncontracted as it stands and has a right to exercise other options that could benfit his career more then being a bit player coming off as a sub here and there.

Decent players are always going to fall off the side of top clubs. I like Toby but can't blame somebody who can't always get a game for joining a shizen team where he's guaranteed a start.

One of Chandler or Bedford may as well try elsewhere next year

Yep, Imagine one goes in the summer Wouldn't blame either of them for wanting a regular gig though.

Bedford had some good moments, Chandler waiting to really take his chance but he's been a bit unlucky.

The Josh Mahoney connection. Interesting. If Rutten falls, I wonder if Mahoney goes too? Maybe their fates are tied together. Can't imagine what they could offer Gus given their midfield is already pretty crammed.

I can see another big Dodoro coup coming up … no, wait.

They have several young  talls not getting a game.

We have a glut of ‘speed forwards’ as Stafford calls them.

Toby has a huge decision to make as he can set up his future with his next deal. Will he usurp one of ANB, Kozzie, or Spargo in the next two years? Maybe. I am more confident of that now than I was 3 months ago. But what about Chandler and Laurie? And then we will more recruits too…

Also I have heard Essendon have had some internal questions around why they have very few indigenous players after being trailblazers under Sheedy…

Mitch isn't a nitwit so there might be something to it.

The Mahoney-Brayshaw connection does slightly bother me though. Give us Draper, Cox or maybe Harry Jones

Bedford is in that 20-30 ranked bracket on our list. That means unless he improves further or we lose someone like Kozzie, he won't get a consistent game for our club the next few years. He'd be in the 10-20 bracket at other weaker clubs though, so he's well within his right to seek opportunity elsewhere.

Strong clubs lose players along the journey. Losing Bedford won't really hurt us. Losing a Brayshaw type would. If Bedford decides to leave, the trade would get done for a token 3rd-4th round pick with a thanks for your service and good luck.

Do a deal to get that young Jones,  future picks whatever it takes.  really like that kid.  other than that nothing at Ess worth getting.

This is the type player we can afford to lose,  love for him to stay but have Chandler, Laurie and Monz-Wakefield also.

would be nice if he turned out to be a superstar and we finally got something from our academy.

I would prefer to keep Bedford, but he is too good not be getting a regular game. If a trade to the Bombers is his preferred option, I would definitely be looking for a package deal involving picks, and going all out for Harrison Jones. Yes, still dreaming.

I fair dinkum puked when I saw Nev Jetta put on a Pies polo shirt. If I see Brayshaw in a Bombers top it's going to need 20 Minnesota police officers to restrain my rage and nausea.

it's quite laughable that harry jones is anywhere near the discussions for bedford. they don't call it the silly season for no reason i guess!! if he goes, it'll be bedford for maybe a future third rounder and then some sort of other pick swap happening to get them more points for this year and we might shuffle picks up the board at a deficit points wise but to maximise the quality of our likely mimimal selections

Channelling my inner @Demonstone , @Demonlandmight want to move the apostrophe in the thread title.

Bomber's → Bombers'

The former would indicate a particular ndividual while the latter indicates a plurality or grouping.

The only 'Bomber' I know in the AFL industry would be Mark 'Bomber' Thompson. And considering what he has gotten up to during his away from football life in recent times, we most definitely don't want Toby on his radar!

Alas Colin, I think the battle for correct apostrophe use has been well and truly lost, not just in this example but also in the overwhelming number of nuffies who think that plurals (or any word ending in 's') require one.

In addition to apostrophes and capital letters (as pointed out in another thread), a colon can completely change the meaning of a sentence.

Consider the difference between "I enjoy eating my wife's cooking" and "I enjoy eating my wife's colon".

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
