Reading this thread is so frustrating. Let's explain again why Weideman is an emergency and not van Rooyen or Mitch Brown. He's there as an emergency should Gawn or Jackson need to be replaced. As it happens, he could also fill in for Ben Brown or even May or Lever. But that's not the primary reason why he's the emergency.

I can't see Brayshaw playing as a wingman or as Oliver's replacement. With Petty and Bowey out, it's hard to believe we would then voluntarily remove a third defender at the same time. To me, that suggests one of Hunt or Rivers gets in for Bowey, although the one that misses out could be the sub.

LDVC, your argument for Weid ahead of JVR doesn't cut it. JVR has been 2nd ruck for Casey behind Bell, with Weid and Mitch Brown in the team. If Weid is seen as our backup ruck, why isn't he playing that role at Casey? Also JVR was a KPD for WA's Under 18's team last year, so has more credentials to replace Lever or May than Weid.

Fair enough, but I would suggest that there's a big difference between being second ruck at Casey and second ruck at AFL level for a player who has not played a senior game. I also think that strategically, the club would want to give van Rooyen (or any first gamer) the best chance of success by playing him in what they believe is his best position whenever he plays his first game.

Let's hope its only Petty out with Covid protocols. Looking at the ins and outs for other matches we might be fortunate to have only one infection. Going to be a tough couple of months for some teams

In Victoria, close contacts do not need to isolate.

Nor did they the last time he had covid.

But are AFL protocols the same as state protocols?

If my memory serves me correctly, Action Jackson debuted very early in his first season as a second ruck / KPF so if JVR is ready no reason not to do the same v

No game last night, as AFL couldn’t find another team off a five day break, after playing interstate, to play at the Kitty Litter construction venue.

I really don't have any belief in our selectors , selecting Weidman and Melksham over and over again does my head in .

Both players don't have good form the reserves, perhaps we mislead ourselves in thing we have good back up players . Being undefeated in the reserves actually means nothing. I am starting to get p.ssed off. Is it too early to drink at 11.32 am Friday 15 jul 2022 ?

Mmmmm. I wonder if there could be late changes to their team?

What are the AFL testing protocols?

The same as the general community but as I understand it clubs encourage RAT tests in an attempt to stop wider breakouts.

Perhaps it's like loading...some clubs do... some don't

How can you have a "coach killer"match if the coach is not there.

Melbourne by 100 (in my dreams)

I wish - look at our last 3 wins over 100 points

1)     vs Carlton Round 9, 2018
2)     vs Carlton Round 6, 2004
3)     vs Richmond, Round 21, 1993

Based on the above, the next 100 point win should be somewhere between 2029-2032

If we can't cover the loss of 2 (admittedly very important) players, we have no business being in the top 4, let alone winning the flag. We simply have to get this done to ensure a confident run to the finals. It's clear the current landscape will mean that there will likely be late outs for teams, so we may as well get used to it and dig in.

This is another good opportunity for the Weid (yes, he's into triple digits now) - if he plays - to repay the faith. Maybe in 10 years' time we'll look back at the day Kozzie ripped up the midfield, Weid kicked 5 and Dunstan cleaned up some of his disposals to lead us through a tricky game up north.

We can, and should, win this.

It was only the first day, three more rounds to go.

Not sure about players but I assume it's the same as coaches who have to upload a photo of a rat test to an app twice a week.

Chandler deserves a gig ahead of Bedford and Hunt in for Bowey.

Sometimes I don't understand our selectors either. Chandler has been ultra consistent and got a suspension. He needs to come in for Bedford who is been poor for two weeks now.

The Oliver replacement is interesting. Dunstan seems next in line but I fear we'll lack run through the middle if he comes in along with Viney, Jordan, Harmes post clearance.

I don't think there's a player that frustrates me more than Harmes.

That 2018 win was a thing of beauty

100 point wins are great but I much rather the 74 point wins. They just feel better and last longer.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
