Absolutely it is given the ground is around 30 metres narrower than the G.

The Cats win, then the issue will be we'll get them next time at the G. Which we will.

AFL seems to favour crowd maximisation in finals w.r.t using the Cats home ground.. The Cats ground will be still under construction this finals series so I doubt even a Cat v Freo final would be played there.

If ever a team had a good reason to be fired up its Geelong. Last years final, Last years round 23 game, Playing on their dung heap with a full crowd cheering them on. And I still believe we will spank them. Melbourne by as much as they want.

Other Vic teams will all be at the G which means not many teams will get a Home ground advantage.

The days of finals at Marvel Stadium are long gone IMO.

The writing was on the wall when the AFL refused a Marvel final for the Dogs against Adelaide in 2015.

Geelong have strung together six wins in a row, but the highest ranked of those opponents is Richmond, in seventh now, who they only just scraped past.

Their whole midfield/medium-sized player pool is quality without being exceptional. Yes, even Dangerfield and Selwood are now just quality without being exceptional. That will make for an interesting coaching challenge - our 'best' centre clearance midfield ought to shred theirs, but then their second rotation will be basically the same quality as their first. I have a feeling we will see some brutal momentum turns when Petracca is brought into the middle at the same time as the other prime movers are sent in after a refresh.

Missing Stewart and now apparently Kolodjashnij as well not only shrinks their defence, it really reduced their intercept marks. On both counts that'll suit us as we will have more forward-50s actually stay in our forward 50, and when they do come out it'll be a little less clean and will often play literally into the hands of our harass-and-intercept game.

Their forward line is more of a problem because we won't have so much luxury to move off opponents when they have the two potent talls up there. Stengle also worries me as just the kind of small forward who has always, always caused us trouble.

I also think we might see our own forwards break loose a bit. For all that Ben Brown has struggled for form, I think he goes a step faster than anyone they have who is tall enough to go with him. I also think Fritsch will beat any given opponent they might send to him; when it isn't by mobility, it'll be out-contesting or by sheer cleverness.

Got to admit, I really would like to make Geelong our bunny team, now and forever.

Biggest threat is Jeremy Cameron. If Petty can tighten up on him we’ll be golden.

I'm interested to see how Cameron goes.  I feel like he is over hyped because he has huge games against lowly teams / teams that don't prioritise defence.  Although admittedly that could probably be said of most key forwards.  If he really is doing something different this year (eg with his centre bounce attendances, field kicking and running forward) we'll see how well our defence covers it.

 

I remember seeing him on AFL360 last year in the lead up to the final talking very confidently about how relaxed and comfortable and ready he is for the game... and he didn't fire a shot.  Obviously that was more about what was happening further up the field but until I see him take a decent defence apart, I'll think he's a bit downhill skier.  Hawkins seems better suited to breaking a close game open with his strength in marking contests and smarts around F50 stoppages.

Cameron is a fantastic footballer.

Great hands, one of the best kicks in the AFL (including his field kicking), high footy iq, athletic, huge tank and great hands

In terms of his goal kicking, a challenge he faces against us is he is at his most dangerous when he turns his opponent around and runs back inside 50 with the flight of the ball and marks. 

Which works great against most teams. 

But we always have our deep spare, meaning instead of running back into an open 50, Cameron is running straight towards may, petty, Lever or Gus.

• Memo to players and coaches: if the game is close in the final minute and we have possession of the ball, DO NOT :
  •   Kick out on the full
  •  Punch the ball into the stand giving away a 50m penalty
  •  Fail to man up on Max Gawn at the top of the goal square
