When?

3 months of very ordinary footy this year & why does he get the luxury of continual games when others don’t?

Who are these others?

An ok game but needs a steak.  Easily moved out the way.

He is a vegan. That maybe part of the problem.

From his gait and strapping his knee is troubling him. His role is very important without TMac. Gawn and Jackson will ease the pressure on him but, again biased forward here🙋‍♂️, but he played his role to bring contests on out kicks on slow plays and helped us win.

Goals helped too but being that centre wing contest player is a thankless task. Him and Sam took to it well and I am sure their teammates appreciated it.

Players like Kosi and Bedford need to read the ball better as Benny contests. I think that is where a vast improvement is possible

Ben’s opponents very rarely outmark him so if our smalls can be at the fall of the ball more, we could kick 2-3 more goals a week

Not sure what has happened, he was in ripping form coming off a big pre season. He just hasn't been the same since his time off from covid and being suspended. In saying that I do feel he's slowly working into some better form but he's definitely not at his best.

Most people will be against it but if Tex keeps up his good form I wouldn't be against trying to get him in this off season.

Honestly I feel like some demonlanders are watching a different team to the one I’m watching. Our forward line instructions are clearly to prioritise bringing the ball to ground. You will see BB competing with 2,3 or 4 defenders regularly and halving the contest. If he goes up in a pack mark situation with soft hands he will only ever mark or be out marked, that is not our strategy. We play percentages and the number of individual goal kickers over the past couple of weeks tells me that our strategy works.

He virtually never gets a block and without another genuine tall target he will rarely get space to run and jump. I’m not sure what key metric is telling people he is not doing his job, all I can think of is that his conversation on set shot, which is usually elite, is a little bit off lately. He does a power of work to get up the ground and provide an outlet.

I’m honestly unsure what people are seeing that they could attribute to BB not playing his role.

This poor bloke is doing the team thing every week and getting no love for it. Really surprised by those having a crack at him.

Only activists.

Tex would be the perfect fit for our forward line and I hope like hell we have a crack at him.

6 goals 7 in the last three matches - 13 scoring shots isn’t too bad when he’s been double teamed for most contests

in comparison fritta has 5.3 and kozzie 4.0

I think this is the main thing. He’s missed/not given off 3 easy snaps the last three weeks, if he kicks those and kicks straight with the first two shots against Brissie it’s 11-2 and no-ones complaining. I wish he would suddenly turn into Wayne Carey and mark everything and kick 10 a week but we won a flag with him playing a more accurate version of this current footy and he will stay in as a result.

The only way he could’ve lost his spot is if Weid went to a new level but sadly, while he battled manfully yesterday his marking is way off. Those complaining about BBB’s hands should take a look at Sam’s (who I wish would take the spot by the scruff of the neck but hadn’t) 5 dropped marks, hands like rocks.

BBB also suffers from what I would call ‘very big man syndrome’ any KPF/Ruck over 200cms gets monstered, tackled in marking contests, arms chopped, bashed in every pack, pushed in the back, no free, Gawny cops this the worst. There seems to be a sweet spot where if you are Hawkins/Walker/Tabener you get frees but if you get too big all of a sudden you’re fair game for every dog act available. The exceptions that prove this rule are Max King and Daniher who play for frees rather than go for the ball.

Looks nothing like a fwd that could kick 50-60 goals

he doesn’t even kick straight anymore

need to trade/draft key forwards

It’s difficult to mark the ball with 2-3 opponents trying to stop you. Losing TMac has made BBB job a lot more difficult, this is why our small guys have to get smarter

Other than Fritta he is out leading goal scorer in both total goals and average goals per game.

He definitely isn't having a great year and output could be higher. But he is still out best tall forward this year.

Oh so he’s instructed to try and mark with hard hands, I’ve heard it all now

Also run out under the ball & put up one hard hand???

No, he is favouring bringing the ball to ground unless he is super confident of taking the mark. Given he is constantly impeded from getting a run at it and contesting against multiple defenders that means he is often preferring to insure that the ball comes to ground.

Yep, this explanation seemed logical to me too. People will only see the thing that meets their brief.

Brown of the Jonathan variety would struggle in our forward line with our delivery and game style. Fritter is struggling to have an impact most weeks

Spot on, been on about this for a while, you just cannot keep banging it in, we don't have a pack mark type of player forward line needs working.

From what I saw yesterday a fit Tex Walker would be a very comfortable fit in our forward line and provide significant help to BBB. Of course it would only be a short term solution but it would allow JVR to develop further his skills as a third tall either forward or back.

Really? It's punitive Demonland roulette....spin the wheel!

There is such a vibe of harking back to 1987 on this thread...."I weally wish the key forward would still kick 7 goals a week like Pig Dunstall and Tony Lockett on Scott Turner and Danny Hughes each week, and if they don't! Well, they're pathetic!!

It doesn't seem to matter how many times people with knowledge  try to educate others who watch the same game... the education is rejected.

Old mate Benny doesn't have the luxury of Tmac, who plays significantly differently to Mitch Brown or Sam.W within the structure... T.Walker wouldn't be a bad fit, if you're looking purely at the on field optics.

Brown was playing poorly when T Mac was in the team. Brown needs to lead and attack the ball more. Plays from behind and waits for it to come to him too often. Agree he does attract more than one opponent

You just answered your own question

It’s very hard to lead an attack with 2-3 opponents when the ball is coming in high. Our small Brigade need to work harder

Me too I like Benny  brings good contest kicks a few goals Tries hard    some days he will kick 3 plus goals (other days nothing)  We need his height down there
