Please please please don’t let this mean Petty is injured. We are holding it together by some duct tape as it is down back.

Yep, we are really missing reasonable rebound and eyes-up midfielders.

The article posted on MFC announcing his debut mentioned that he is 194cm, so I'm presuming that's his current height.

That was when he was recruited.  Anyone stood next to him at VFL huddles to asses??

Hope we send Petty up fwd with Discogs to replace him

I am not convinced he will play.

Glad

Nothing against M Brown but if Weids can't get a game whats that saying about Weids???

Gotta rely on B Brown and Fritch to kick a few each and supported by the smalls inc Trac

Bayley is not going to play CHF , expect Petty to start there . Turner will be FB and Mitch or Ben will start on the bench . Dees to win by 56 pts.

Opinion or intel?

So you reckon Lever and Turner as our only key defenders, and then Petty, Brown and Brown, with Jackson to rotate, all playing forward? Nah.

Tommo at #localfooty today looked like he'd been dropped...

I think it's a mistake

He was well into best 22 before the injury  and we should be backing him in

Hope he's Sub because he's our best swingman option without Tmac

Blokes of the quality of Tommo and Hunt getting dropped shows that our depth is still good

would be fantastic if Turner develops quickly as we need another tall option back as Smith is constantly injured

Great selections the outs aren’t AFL standard confident we will win now

20 of last years Grand Final 23 are playing.  Missing Rivers, TMac and May.  That's a very strong side.

I think everyone knows what it says about Sam - Goodwin said in his presser he has been told he needs to improve (my words significantly) on certain things - my guess is

- not being easily pushed off the ball

- bringing the ball to ground and stopping his opponent marking

- compete with some aggression when not in possession

- heaven forbid kick a few goals

- run hard to create space and an option for players up the field

there may be more I don’t know but whatever it is he’s not close to a recall based on what I’m hearing unless he starts playing with a bit more physicality

I'm not so sure re Petty at CHF CoolX.  If my memory serves me correct, going on what Goody hinted in yesterday's pressor, BBB & Mitch more than likely the  starters up forward.

Not saying we won't swing Petty up forward at some stage but if we're playing 'the Demon way' i doubt it.  If he goes forward it's probably going to be in hope if the two talls (announced in starting line up) fail to fire.

This is all absolutely correct and just about applies in equal measure to Jackson.

We are still paying only $3 to win the flag!

gees thought I might get some value this week!

Two pretty major key spine (book end)  players though Swooper and don't really have genuine replacements for either.

However, if Turner slots in tomorrow he might cover off Maysie's role.  Who knows he might even play a ripper.

Then fingers crossed at least one of Mitch, BBB or Dogga can fire up in F50 to give us something.  Surely one of them can get going.  Third time lucky!?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
