Mickey 4,777 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 (edited) The Melbourne Football Club is aware of an altercation that occurred in Prahran on Sunday evening between Steven May and Jake Melksham. “Following a dinner on Sunday evening, Jake and Steven informed us of a scuffle that took place after a lighthearted disagreement between the pair escalated. “Both Jake and Steven had been drinking at dinner and are incredibly remorseful that things played out the way they did. “Given Steven is still under the AFL concussion protocols from Round 11, he was aware that under club guidelines he should not have been drinking. “The leadership group has recommended to impose a one-match ban on Steven, a decision which has been endorsed by the club’s broader leadership. This will make him unavailable for both AFL and VFL selection. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1144624 Edited June 7, 2022 by Mickey 1 Quote
Macca 17,127 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 (edited) Just give the bloke a fine, not suspend him Hurts the team more than the player. I'm all for doing the right thing off the field but would we suspend him on the eve of a GF? Edited June 7, 2022 by Macca 13 Quote

deeTRACted 406 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Super annoyed, but we should acknowledge the leadership from our leadership group, it would have been easy to just be like 'Oh dont do it again you are a super important player and we need you' but culture starts from the top. 12 2 Quote
Garbo 1,567 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 So one match for drinking while on concussion protocol, nothing for punching Melksham 😀 4 7 Quote
Demon Jim 149 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Absolutely had to suspend him. Destroys culture when you don't. 17 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Very disappointing actions from former captain Jake Melksham. He should receive a lifetime ban 3 2 Quote
FarNorthernD 5,861 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 I’m sure the Pies are going to be stoked that our culture precludes Steven from playing on QB. So dumb. 5 2 Quote
darkhorse72 1,941 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Nope, and we have two threads on the event. Can someone merge them :) While its was stupid by the players, if we enforce standards it must be for all players. Clubs rules on drinking while injured for concussion. 1 Quote

Correct. It shouldn't be tolerated at all and no single player is above the club and it's culture. 4 Quote

Demon Jim 149 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Standards won us a flag. We can't afford to let them slip. 12 Quote

DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Every player at the dinner had no problem with May drinking until he got caught. So…. They can’t exactly be emphasising the high standards. Given 2 of our older players were there I wouldn’t be surprised if many others in the leadership group were too. 3 Quote
gs77 4,612 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Jeez the media will have a field day with this. Terrible undisciplined look. WTF is going on? 2 2 Quote
Gorgoroth 13,212 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 There is a four lettered word that contains the word “log” that sums up May right now. Seriously one dumb individual. Quote
dazzledavey36 56,266 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Oh FFS... This is incredibly dumb by Steven May. If he knew about the protocols of not drinking while under the concussion rule then its stupid by him. Watch Mason Cox kick 5 now. 1 1 Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,708 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Another reason for the media to dig their boots in... ...we are now giving them the ammo! When it rains, it pours! Not good for May, with the bye coming up he will not have played for 4 weeks. 3 1 Quote
Nelo 813 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 Idiots. This season is coming off the tracks at a rapid pace. 4 Quote
