Felt like we lost game when Sparrow missed a basic handball which was probably the wrong option in the end anyway.

Something needs to be said for some players in terrible form at the moment on top of missing some key players (or key players playing under done).

A few times tonight we kept trying to be unselfish when the right option was to have a ping. Spargo, Harmes, Brayshaw and Gawn all guilty of this.

Our efforts at contested footy, our decision making & our delivery inside 50 have all been appalling for a while now.

Better to have these issues now then at the end of the season though.

Ben Brown would be thankful that Sam Weideman can't take a mark, otherwise he'd be looking at a sizeable stint in the 2's.

Might we still have a few players under the weather? Wow we looked out on our feet late in the game.

Forward craft in last quarter abysmal, repeatedly turning over ball ain’t going to win Jack.

Umpires Putrid but we were worse, too many down hill skiers. God I hate Papley🤯

Well f me we looked absolutely knackered there in the last. Those intercept marks by Syd in defence screwed us.

Better hope we're in the midst of some serious loading on the training track because our much vaunted fitness looks to have evaporated.

Forwardline entries were just embarrassing.  It’s like we actually aimed for Paddy and Tom McCartin and Florent - at what point do these players actual think to themselves ok they’ve marked the last half dozen long high entries maybe that isn’t the way.  I thought those days were gone.

Our lack of connection, hunger and skills for much of this year has been masked by the fact we have played mostly average teams. We've played two contenders and have been shown up.

The Pies will smell blood in the water.

Maxy was huge.

It was clear when we struggled in large parts against the two worst teams in North and West Coast yet many here didn’t think anything of it.

Horrible watch that. Sydney-centric commentary. Sydney-centric umpiring. It was 5.1 to 0.5 when Reid is awarded the non-mark just before quarter time and it just got worse.

Rounds 10-19 last season we went 4W-1D-4W (plus the bye). Hopefully it’s because we’re loading them up on the track again.

0 pts from turnover. We have been figured out. out coached 2nd week running.

We will get spanked next week too. Tmac going down is going to define this season as he was the only key forward looking dangerous and that is saying something.

We played like crap and still should’ve won. I think we would’ve went close without the umpires stepping in. Mentally, we aren’t where we were last year. Last year we were so strong mentally that we could win despite bad umpiring decisions against us.This year we are back with the pack now. And, no team In the league should even need to play against the umpires. But that is the way of the game. Australian Rules football in the modern era is largely a game of momentum swings, and resiliency against that breeds grinding wins. We are grinding out. The AFL has ruined the game of Australian Rules. So the best thing we can do now is mentally strengthen our players to be able to withstand mental warfare. Because that is what every week is. I feel it as a fan, and can only imagine how mentally drained these players are, in all sides. Hopefully the club can see this is steer us towards some psychological resilience training, much like Lomachenko does in boxing. As a fan of Australian Rules, tonight is just another bad night. #DropPetracca.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
